Error: 0x800F0922 when installing KB 2919355

This error may appear for multiple reasons. Some common causes are VPN clients and an unexpected System Reserved Partition size.

Try removing any VPN Clients and attempt the update again.

You might be able to fix this problem by using third-party software to increase the size of the System Reserved partition.

If you have tried both solutions and you still experience Error 0x800F0922 please contact Microsoft Support so that we can further investigate your issue.

I had all options ticked and needed to run 3 times before no more issue found. Unfortunately, I didn’t make any notes on exactly what have been removed.

Ugh, this is ridiculous.  How does MS expect even an above average PC user to troubleshoot/fix this ?

I have no idea (nor do I care) if I have a VPN client or unexpected System Reserve Partition size.

Recently, I was advised by MS tier II support that refreshing my computer appears to be my best option.

What a PITA wasting 15++ hours with MS tech/phone support and reading countless posts trying to understand all this the past several weeks.

Not to mention that it probably will take an additional 6-8+ hours to update and restore programs/apps if all goes well after a refresh which seems inevitable.

All I know is that my almost brand new computer worked great before this 8.1 update business.  Quite sad for all of us who have to deal with this mess.

Perhaps I'll hold off for a few more weeks to see if a user friendly and/or miracle fix comes out before going the refresh route.

    So just spend a couple hours with Microsoft support techs;

The first 2 didn't manage to solve anything and just repeated what I've attempted previously. The last tech I spoke to, spend about 2 hours trying to fix the problem.

He started services.msc and stopped/(re)started many diffirent services I honestly can't remember.

He changed the file "SoftwareDistribution" to .old and then ran a windowsupdate.bat file with various commands. Next he attempted to reinstall KB2919355, KB2961851 and KB2962123 seperately 1 by 1. After about 3 restarts he finally managed to fix 2 out of the 3. But the dreaded KB2919355 still remains.

Finally he created a new Admin account, because it might've been corrupted user files. Didn't help.

I'll be receiving Tech2 help in a couple hours and hope (s)he can solve the problem.

"...Run Ccleaner to clean up registry..."

Excellent news that you were able to get KB2929355 installed.  I wonder, do you happen to know exactly what items CCleaner removed?  Also, what options did you have ticked in the Registry Cleaner list?  For instance, if you're running any version of Piriform CCleaner after v. 1.39.502, you should have an interface similar to this when the Registry button in the left-hand main navigation pane is clicked:

Did you have each of these items selected as shown above when running CCleaner?

I have been getting error 800F0922 when installing KB2919355. I don’t have Cisco or any third party VPN Clients and I have sufficient space in System Reserved Partition.

CBS log: 2014-05-15 19:11:55, Error [0x018049] CSI 00000467 (F) Failed execution of queue item Installer: CSI Boot File Servicing (BFSVC) AI ({c5f0e9d7-e844-4507-89e4-701b5a747221}) with HRESULT HRESULT_FROM_WIN32(1392). Failure will not be ignored: A rollback will be initiated after all the operations in the installer queue are completed; installer is reliable (2)[gle=0x80004005]

Below is what I have done and the update was finally successful.

    1. Fix MBR.
      • bootrec /RebuildBcd
      • bootrec /fixMbr
      • bootrec /fixboot
    2. Assign a drive letter to the system reserved partition and run chkdsk
    3. Run Ccleaner to clean up registry.
    4. Reboot
    5. Run the update through Windows Update and successful.

    Hope this help.
