This error may appear for multiple reasons. Some common causes are VPN clients and an unexpected System Reserved Partition size.

Try removing any VPN Clients and attempt the update again.

You might be able to fix this problem by using third-party software to increase the size of the System Reserved partition.

If you have tried both solutions and you still experience Error 0x800F0922 please contact Microsoft Support so that we can further investigate your issue.

I think trying something like partition magic (freeware), to increase the partition size may work. But I haven't tried yet.

I've been chasing this issue for 8 months now.

    System:

    Lenovo T530

Windows 7 factory install with in-place upgrade to Win 8 then upgrade to 8.1

The MS forums lead everyone on a wild goose chase with changing partition sizes, uninstalling vpn software, uninstalling AV software, contacting MS support, clean booting, etc, etc, etc.

I was getting these errors installing KB2919355 and the solution for "unable to install... rolling back" was to change the boot mode in the bios from  UEFI to Legacy.

Here are the log items in case someone else stumbles upon this forum.

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F0922: Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB2962409).

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F0922: Windows 8.1 Update for x64-based Systems (KB2919355).

    THE FIX:

I hate referencing another forum here but this solved my issue:

search for "uefi-secure-boot-may-cause-windows-updates-to-fail-with-error-code-0x800f0922" on bleepingcomputer forum.

    I hope this helps!
