Error: 0x800F0922 when installing KB 2919355

I do not understand why this issue is not being taken more seriously. This error causes the computer to roll back to its previous state, and as a result, every patch that has been released after KB2919355 is never successfully installed. This means that I have been running an unpatched machine for the past two months.

I can't believe the only solution is to waste an entire afternoon with MS support so that they basically reformat my PC, leaving me to reinstall everything again. I cannot express how frustrated I am at MS right now.

The only solution is to reinstall Windows 8.1 from CD.  I tried everything you described and could not get it to work.  I got MS tech support to "help" and they did the same procedures.  They finally gave up and downloaded and ISO to my machine and did the re-install.

Yes, this would solve the problem and at the same time give me a clean system again. But it is a lot of work as I have dozens of applications installed on this machine and they all need to be reinstalled and possibly even updated to the latest version.

I'll wait a bit before I decide but if I am going to reinstall one thing is sure: I'll install Windows 7.

I am fed up of this Windows 8, KB 2919355 is not the only problem. I can't use some VPN connections because installing a TAP adapter on Win 8.1 fails (and it is still not solved).

I apologize but there's no link to fix this.  The best I can offer is to assist you in opening a support case because it can be sometimes hard to navigate the support process.  Would that work for you?

Can you please answer this question in a way that non-techies can understand. I just want a laptop to do some work. I do not have time to learn how to support it. I just want it to work.

Windows is forcing me to update. It fails. It hangs. It reverses. All of the above. Over and over again. I am told I have to update to keep security up to date - but then it all goes pear-shaped.

Please just send me a link to let me carry on using this laptop.

What is a "VPN Client". I don't even think I have one!

Actually - I don't want to know. Why should I understand it?  My sony playstation and iphone just work.  Why can't MS machines do the same.

I have tried every thing suggested on this site except for the option that needs ISO. One interesting observation is the originator has provided the most useless information on this thread and has 0 contribution to this thread after his initial post. So if this is how Microsoft will treat it customers is not will lead Microsoft anywhere. dooms day is near. These are the word from a person who has been a Microsoft fan for last 30 years. I can't believe why can't Microsoft takes ownership and responsibility to make sure that a update is installed without going thru all these hoops. This will make most ordinary people (with low technical background). These windows 8 and its update fiascos have made me look like a dumb so far, I have been working supporting windows since ver 1. I still have a computer that has windows first version working. I own first Media Center All in one. First thing that bothers me is no details on what went wrong during the install is explained and a normal person will never know. Call Microsoft ( every person who has called has shown takes away at least 4 hours of time) who has time in todays world to deal with just getting an update install on the system. This should be non brainer. Either no one is letting Mr Nadela know about the end user frustration or he is keeping his eyes shut. If this continues then Microsoft will loose support of the people like me. All my smart phones have been windows phone. Since day one all of them had one common issue they heat up and run out of battery. Same with computers they just work something in background and heat up. I know lot of this is off topic but is related in the sense that Microsoft must make sure their products get updated without user has to worry and if there is an issue it should be clearly in plain English described like uninstall the following programs from your system before it can be upgraded if you have compatibility issues. This should be clearly documented why the install failed and what steps exactly will fix it. for example what is 0x800F0922. I know this error code as this is in event log. How many normal users know what is event log and where in event log to look for error. Next what is reserve partition and what should be the correct size, ho much free space. Nothing has been explained by the Microsoft representative in his post. Unless you provide exact and more precise details its use less information. Read your post again and think how a normal ordinary user will get their problem resolved. I have made at least 100 attempts to install windows 8.1 update 1 on my HP pavilion dv6 with touch screen. I upgrade from windows 7 to windows 8 and my product key is windows 8. It installs and reboots after 100% install message says can't update and reverting the update and without giving any details what went wrong what I should do to fix the issue . If only solution is ISO file then Microsoft is responsible for making sure to make it available to general public to fix this install. I expect a response to this message from the Microsoft person who started this thread. If the purpose was to split the community up and just a distraction from a long thread then its very unfortunate.
