Error: 0x800F0922 when installing KB 2919355

I removed both my Shrewsoft VPN Client and my Cisco VPN client, then tried the update, and it worked. Not sure which one was (or if both were) the problem.

One of the reasons I recommend removing antivirus, classic 8 and start8 prior to installing KB2919355 just to be safe.  I should add review your Cisco VPN clients too.

Regarding nothing that can be done.  I disagree.  Call 1-800-Microsoft and complain.    Or email me to open a case so you can be counted.  susan-at-msmvps.com (change the -at- to @)

Don’t you think it odd that 2 such similar threads should open within 2+ weeks of each other, see mineKB2919355 Update FAILURE and error 0x800f0922**, this just shows the problems facing Users researching answers to their problems and the inadequacy of the search engine used.**   I know Ms were offering free help from another thread with KB2919355 problems (on page 2 or 3 of over a 100 and some, if I remember correctly, and which I requested some days before this thread.

Why did Ms choose to issue 2 massive updates, nearly equal to the original OS in total, any reasonable person may ask? Why no Service Packs?  Some of us use Windows to the full, not just as an expensive base for a web browser, and we appear to be the ones suffering with all the problems.  I started with Win 95 and only missed Win 7. I thought with all the beta trial and the massive revision that this OS would not suffer from the usual “Wait until the first Service Pack is out” but how wrong I was.

I must admit that I was a happy user of Win XP, hated Vista, and I had less trouble with 12 years of Win XP than with less than 12 months of Win 8 + 8.1 + KB2919355.  I had both betas of Win 8 and bought the Win 8 Pro offer then changed to a 64bit machine with plain Win 8.  I was willing to give this new OS a fair go, BLOODY IDIOT!  I now face similar problems to those after the Win 8.1 update.  I upgraded because all of a sudden I started facing problems with my Win XP related software and was told this was because there had been changes to a lot of the software and services over the years and backward compatibility problems, Office XP being a typical example and some of the services related.  I will never touch a new Windows for at least a year when the next one comes out, if then.  It will be pointed out that only a minor percentage of upgrades have problems, so what if it is the real users that suffer, the plebs are easy to please and we make the money!  Business are not daft and an awful lot still use Win XP. "Touch" and "barge poles" I think I have heard.

It is indeed a problem that MS should take responsibility for and make it easy on their consumers as they should. But by now everyone should know to take matters into their own hands by seeking for an alternative solution. 

I did what JW0914 suggested and now everything is great again. I just installed 16 updates that was just rolled out and one of them being the KB2919355 update again, but this time it was about 250ish MB. Everything installed perfectly fine.

So what I'm trying to say is you're either going to fix your own computer by doing hours and hours of research or you just let it sit as it is and deal with it. It definitely sucks that MS isn't helping and they should, but there's nothing we can do about it.

Please take the time to read back through this thread and you will find an answer to your problem and tutorials to help you.  If after you've read the tutorials you still need help, please post back and I'd be happy to help.

I've appreciate all you've done to help here and I don't want to inconvenience you at all, but I have read though many of the posts here and elsewhere and I think I know how to do a 8.1 repair install, but I need the 8.1 ISO to do that and I guess I'm not smart enough to get that at this time. If I'm not smart enough to do that, then I'd venture to guess there are many more out there in the same boat. Thank you again for your help with these issues.
