After upgrading to Windows 8.1, my Bluetooth device doesn’t work. How can I get it working again?

Hi,

 First, try updating the device’s driver:

1.      Check Windows Update for driver updates.

a.      Swipe in from the right to bring up the charms, and select Settings.

b.      Tap or click Change PC Settings.

c.      Select Update and recovery, then select Windows Update.

d.      Select Check for updates. Make sure to look at the Optional updates in the results.

2.      Check the device manufacturer’s site for updated drivers.

3.      Check the radio manufacturer’s site for updates. To determine what make and model of Bluetooth radio you have:

a.      Swipe in from the right to bring up the charms and select Search, and search for device manager. Open Device Manager from the search results.

b.      In Device Manager, expand Bluetooth, and look for a device with a name starting with Broadcom, Intel, or Qualcomm Atheros (these are the major radio manufacturers). Check the website of your radio manufacturer for driver updates.

c.      If you don’t see one of these manufacturers, but instead see Generic Bluetooth Adapter:

 i.     Press-and-hold or right-click on Generic Bluetooth Adapter, and select Properties

ii.     Select the Advanced tab.

iii.     Note the number next to Manufacturer ID.

iv.     Find that manufacturer ID on this page: https://www.bluetooth.org/en-us/specification/assigned-numbers/company-identifiers  (Common ones will be 2 = Intel, 15 = Broadcom, 69 = Atheros)

4.      Once you have updated your Bluetooth drivers, please try using your device again. In many cases, updating to the latest drivers will resolve the issue. In some instances, you may need to un-pair and re-pair the device from the Bluetooth settings (from the Settings charm, select Change PC Settings, and then select Bluetooth) to completely fix the issue.

If, after updating to the latest available driver and re-pairing the device, your Bluetooth device is still not working, please provide the following information in your post:

·              PC manufacturer and model

·              Bluetooth radio manufacturer and model

·              Remote device manufacturer and model

This information will help Microsoft to further understand your issue and determine if it is a known issue or a new problem that needs additional investigation.

    Yeah, "fsquirt.exe" helped  me too. I'm generally starting to be disgusted by Microsoft's methods ...took me a lot of hours to even get rid of that "charms bar" and hot corners nonsense and I still had to use third party's app and downgrade touchpad's driver... and now this issue with bluetooth. They might have at least write "Sorry guys, we have totally no idea" or "Sorry guys, but we don't care". And I wouldn't be suprised if they just put lacking options and bug fixes into the next Windows, painted it differently and proudly propagated all those "totally new features" causing absolute revolution for customers experience :-D

    Hi ,

    This Jainulabdeen. Am not able to connect my phone through bluetooth.

    my pc model: Acer Aspire E1-570-6803

    Bluetooth radio manufacturer and model: Qualcomm Atheros . 69.

    1. It showing my BT device. If i try to pair it ,it ask for "Enter the passcode for your phone" . if i give any number and press 'next' it gives "Thats didn't work    That passcode isn't right. Try adding your phone again".

    but am not getting any response in BT Device while i doing this.

    1.  If i try with another option "Enter a passcode into  your phone " followed by some 8 digit number , no response in my BT device . Also that 8 digit code is keep on changing with giving "That did't work enter this passocode".

    My Bluetooth device driver is updated version only.

    please find below image.

    Kindly help me to get rid of this problem.....I tried all the option mentioned in this post for repairing my BlueTooth.

    Streamerjohn, I read that some dell wireless cards (350,355,360,365) use a Toshiba bluetooth stack, just for Sh**'s and giggles give the stack I posted a try.  Also try Bluesoleiv it might detect your card.  What happens if you manually start fsquirt.exe? And have you tried messing with Dell's ControlPoint software?

    Thanks Jacob and Rolling7z for your answers.

    Jacob, I hadn't tried that so I now have.  Uninstalled the driver for the card in the USB section but that made no difference, so then I did the same with all the other drivers in the USB section.  Same result, no BT Icon in the task bar and no way of waking up the card (I can see the card in the system, but the BT bit refuses to acknowledge).  Four more different cards later I am still no better off, so I am assuming that something in Windows 8.1 has corrupted the stack as Rolling7z suggests asit is unlikley that all eight cards I have now tried have the same fault on them.  There is nothing on the Dell site to help so I will call them and see if they can provide and solutions.

    I would still welcome a comment from Microsoft though, but this may be a forlorn hope.
