Can't start Dolby Audio driver after upgrading to Windows 8.1

Lenovo U410 wirh Windows 8 pre-installed.

Upgrade to 8.1 went flawlessly, but every time I re-start or boot up the machine I get this:

I've uninstalled and re-installed Dolby Home Theater, done an extensive local and web search about this.

There appears to be NO mention on my machine anywhere for a Dolby Audio Driver" or anything that uses it.

I've been on the Lenovo forum and there's a thread there that says to disable driver signature, which I've done to no effect.

I still get this message.

Can anyone throw any light on this?

Hi Everyone!!

I did something to my laptop and it worked!!! After messing around the fix was simple!

Of course make sure your computer has all the windows updates. I don't know if that's gonna be a contributing factor, but it was part of my methods.

After that go into your "D Drive" which is found under "My computer" --> "Drivers" -->"Audio"

Once you're in the audio folder, you're gonna scroll down, you will see a computer icon that says "setup" click on that. Once you do that you will follow the instructions. It seems by doing this it updates the conextant audio driver. I don't know why it didn't update in the device manager as others have suggested. But after I did this, I checked to make sure it was fixed

You can see if it was fixed by:

Going into your control panel and clicking the Dolby theater which can be found in the sounds, games, etc. --> you should see the actual program pop up instead of the error message!

I am so glad I finally fixed this! If this helps you, please label it as the answer so everyone else can fix theirs too! It seems to be a major issue

Hi,

Lenovo has updated the Conexant Audio Drivers for Windows 8.1 to correct this error.  You can download the updated drivers for your device at http://support.lenovo.com/en\_US/downloads/default.page.

    Hey guys. I hate to disappoint you all, but Dolby will refuse to work with Windows 8.1, but I am pretty sure Windows will find a fix to this. Just be patient. Now, there are TWO ways you can have some good quality audio.

    #1 - Computer Default Audio

    • Right Click on Windows Button (located on bottom left corner)
    • Click "Device Manager"
    • Hit the scroll down button for "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers"
    • When you get there, there should be a program called Contexent. If you DON'T want

    that program, then RIGHT CLICK on it and press uninstall.

    • There should then be a box that pops up asking if you want to permanantly uninstall. I would        select that option.
    • RESTART THE COMPUTER!
    • Navigate back to your "Device Manager"
    • In the top bar of this manager, click "Action"
    • Click the first option under Action, which should be called "Scan for Hardware Changes"
    • Go back to the "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers" option
    • That should be your computers default option for sound.

    *IF THAT DOESN'T WORK RIGHT CLICK THE "SOUND,VIDEO, AND GAME CONTROLLERS,

    THEN SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES*

    #2 - Contexent Audio (What I am Using)

    QUICK NOTE: If you are not willing to "Uninstall" Dolby Audio Player, then this isn't the choice                            for you. However, if you noticed the " ", you don't really Uninstall Dolby, it will

    still be a part of your computer. THIS OPTION WILL GET RID OF THE                                        ANNOYING POP UP BOX WHEN YOU START YOUR COMPUTER!

    - Go to your "File Explorer" (You can find this by right clicking the start button)

    • Double Click the "D:" drive
    • Go to the folder "drives"
    • Go to the folder "AUDIO"
    • Go to the folder "DolbyGUI"
    • Right click and "uninstall" Dolby Advanced Audio and Dolby Home Theatre
    • Restart your computer
    • If you go back, you can check if those items are there. Don't worry, they still are for the option

    to Install. But, you need to wait for answers from Windows staff in order to get that back               working, as said in my Intro.

    • Go to your "Device Manager" by right clicking the start button
    • Go to "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers"
    • Make sure underneath this option, there is a program with Contexent in it.

    IF CONTEXENT ISN"T THERE...

    - Go to this link: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS031753

    • Click the first option, and download it.
    • You can double check, after finishing the installation.
    • Restart your computer.

    So I uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, I deleted the drivers entirely and downloaded them from the website, I probably have done this 20 times already, I am done everything I know how, and I still get that freaking message every time I boot up. I don't know if this is related or not, but I also can't play itunes or windows media player music. I have a lenovo U310 and I am going crazy here. I followed the instructions perfectly and it is still happening. HELP me!

    Hi I don't know if you would be able to help me but I am having the same issue. However I have the sony vaio all in one tap mobile desktop pc model SVJ2021BPXW. When I expand the sound drivers I get a realtek high definition audio. And when I unistalled and tried to reinstall it could not get the driver reinstalled properly no matter how many times I tried and had to restore to a previous point. Also I do not have the d partion drive that I was able to find. Do you have any idea how I would be able to fix the Dolby error message. My sound works when using internet explorer however will not work with media player or any games or apps. Please help. Sony is doing nothing.
