If your laptop's been in use for some time it may need the keyboard removing etc to gain access to the fans and vents to clean them properly. I've seen several with some real fluff monsters inside blocking the free flow and causing lockups and freezing. Laptops are particularly prone to this problem by the nature of them sitting on our laps, as opposed to a hard desktop etc.

 

If you're using a blower on the vents all you're doing is pushing the rubbish back into the PC.

I intend to do as you say some time soon because i saw real benefit when i sitted the laptop on the cooling pad. still, the severity of my problems is not justified for a laptop of this class and brand name.

SoundTap was part of other NCH software which had gotten uninstalled prior to the crash. Meaning that there is no SoundTab in programs and features to uninstall and that SoundTap should not be the source of problems since it has been removed long time ago.

If what you say is correct how do you explain this start up entry? The driver is loading every time you boot the computer.

Should i seek and delete stdriverx64.sys as well?

You need to uninstall by selecting Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features, place the cursor on SoundTap Streaming Audio Recorder, right click and select Uninstall from the drop down menu. You should then restart your computer and check that the start up entry no longer appears in the Autoruns report.

stdriverx64.sys apparently was installed with other NCH software.... When you instructed me to run Adware Cleaner....Adware Cleaner identified NCH software as a threat and uninstalled them BUT not completely. Remnants remained. This had the effect of me not being able to find SoundTap in Programs and Features because it was partly uninstalled. So, what i did was to reinstall SoundTap and then immediately uninstall it from Programs and Features. This way i was able to rid my computer from stdriverx64.sys

BUT, like i said earlier, i dont believe this to be the source of my troubles. I dont believe that stdriverx64.sys is malicious either unless proven otherwise by concrete evidence. The BSOD implicating stdriverx64.sys came after many <hard resets> of the computer. That could have corrupted something.

Anyway, in view of the evidence of the BSOD, lets assume for a moment that stdriverx64.sys is malicious and we get rid of it as i did.

How does this addressess the fact that i experience FREEZES while inside the BIOS menu, while inside Safe mode or while booting from the windows 7 Repair CD?

One has to look at the Windows 7 boot process

to realize that at the above phases of execution there is NO stdriverx64.sys driver loaded yet unless Microsoft is crazy as to allow a rat to bring down its house.

Therefore, i believe the focus should be on what loads at what time. I.e., what has loaded once inside the BIOS menu interface.... because there lies the culprit of my FREEZING problems...
