Event 7001 in the Event Viewer

Anyway, i was able to carry out your above sugestions. The search service was already in automatic start up mode... 

I told you to change it to Automatic (Delayed Start). This is different to Automatic - see my original instructions below.

Click on the Start button and select Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Locate Windows Search in the list. Change the StartUp type to If it is not set to Automatic (Delayed Start), right click and select Properties, General tab. There is a box after StartUp type. The options are available on a drop down by clicking on the arrow down to the right of the box. Make the change and click on Apply and OK. Restart the computer and check whether it has started.

I dont know if i should be satisfied yet......... 

Acute Freezing might have subsided but not comletely eradicated (i got one freeze today)

This is how freezes start and little by little increase in frequency.... i still suspect that

something (a misbehaving device driver) is slowly corrupting (eating) my BIOS

That is a good result. It is usually best not to tinker with the BIOS and your regular references to entering the BIOS has caused me to worry that incorrect changes were the cause of your freezes. Normally you never need to change defaults.

Another status update....

Seems that by performing the <Loading BIOS default settings> operation my computer is stable again.

Seems that my bios was corrupted somehow (bios virus, other reason) and this is the reason the computer would freeze even while browsing the bios or in safe mode....

i wonder why windows did not pick up this corruption and issue a warning...

As far as i know the bios is checked with every boot and a checksum is produced indicating whether it is healthy or corrupted...

Gerry, I BE DAMNED..., i seem to be back in business... 

Loading BIOS default settings appears to have benefited my laptop..

Seems that my BIOS had gotten corrupted somehow... the only change i had made was to set the Fan Always On to Disabled from Enabled.. and that i did while trying to resolve random freezes..

Does this resolve my laptop freezing problem? Too early to tell....
