Clean install of latest nVidia display drivers using GeForce Experience Windows Update Troubleshooter Uninstall, reboot, and re-install of nVidia Drivers - Clean boot and installation of US Language Pack (couldn't do it) System refresh followed by Windows Update Repairs - Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant Installation of KB2871389 which is an update to Windows 8 to make the store ready for 8.1 downloads(previously "The update is not applicable to your computer") - now just fails after the system restarts. Installing every available update one-by-one Another system refresh Fixes achieved: System refresh fixed: --- Being unable to install the US Language Pack (KB2607607) --- Windows Update issue where there was a repeating install of one update and no updates listed as having been installed ever (it's still not 100%, however, with updates failing on reboot) --- Program and Features > "Turn Windows Features on and off" previously showed an empty white box with NO "Please Wait..." Yes it was hassle, but it took a lot less time to get my computer back up and running and installing updates (which let's face it, is worth about as much as getting 8.1 to show up in the store). Got it, I unistalled KB 2871389, hard rebooted my PC. Reinstalled KB 2871389 and now the update shows. Hey D! Can't uninstall or install that update - it says it's not applicable. DAMN IT!!!

I spent over an hour on the phone with a support agent who remotely access my PC and did some trouble shooting to no avail. His final conclusion was that I may not have all the Windows Updates I need to receive Windows 8.1 and that, because everyone is receiving the update, the servers are clogged and I may not receive the Windows Updates I need for a few days or more. He then informed me that Microsoft could send me a disk copy of Windows 8.1 Professional for $200 if I wanted to take that option. Thank you for doing this dude - you've spent time all of us now don't have to!

I have the same problem, but apparently it's due to having windows 8 Enterprise. Does anyone know if/when windows 8.1 will be available from windows 8 enterprise? Can't believe it's not already available. Shame. Rights to Windows 8.1 Enterprise licenses: Windows 8.1 for production use (Pro and Enterprise) will be available through the VLSC on October 18 and for new customers to purchase through Microsoft Volume License Resellers beginning November 1. The installation media for Volume Licensing (VL) versions of Windows 8.1 can do in-place updates over existing Windows 8 installs, so admins won't need to download the update again for every PC that needs to be upgraded. Enterprise system administrators can also choose to perform what Microsoft calls a "refresh" deployment, where "data and settings are captured, the current OS is removed, Windows 8.1 is installed on a clean drive, apps are reinstalled, and then the user data is restored." These methods are only available with the VL install media, the ISOs of which were released to MSDN and TechNet on Thursday. The earlier Windows 8.1 ISOs that shipped in September can only do clean installs with fresh product keys; they don't include the in-place update or refresh functionality.

CONCLUSION

Got it, I unistalled KB 2871389, hard rebooted my PC. Reinstalled KB 2871389 and now the update shows.
