Windows Experience Index reports error. How can I diagnose and fix this?

Anne, you also have the option of doing a "restore to factory condition", as all bought computers have a small invisible partition containing an ISO of the original settings, just like you bought it!

Restoring to this condition varies for different computer brands (F12 after booting to get to the factory restore menu more often than not, but it varies between brands. Older computers often need restore disks that you make yourself or supplied with computer), so you would have to go to your "official" computer support site. to find out. A factory restore is a simple procedure to carry out.

Before you do anything else though and I'm surprised no one has mentioned it, backup all your personal data to flash, disk or USB hard drive. Please do that before you do anything!

A clean fresh install from a windows disk you have to make yourself, should be a last resort.

Just my personal 2 cents worth:

You have been covering some serious techy ground in this thread ...just because the experience index doesn't work (?).

An In-Place Upgrade is going to cost $$$.

If the only problem your having is being unable to run the experience index, just ignore it if your computer works OK.

The experience index just gives you a score of "how good is your computer?". A bit like a 1-10 on personal looks. You don't need it to keep living.

If you want to worry about a computer issue, wait until you get one a little more serious than a bit of W7 bloatware not working.

Don't download or run registry cleaners or computer optimizers. They are dangerous snake-oil. I notice you have deleted one of these program. It might have been responsible for the problem with chkdsk and/or the experience index.

A better performance view that contains plenty for you to a degree and plenty for a tech to notice problem areas is:

I found the link and followed it but each time I clicked on it, I got a message saying that there was nothing there.  Have you another link to suggest?  I think I found a site to download the ISO from "Digital River".  I hope that it works so that I can create an installation disc.

Thank you for the quick response.

You may download Windows 7 .iso file from this link and then burn it on a DVD to create a Windows 7 installation disk. Afterwards, you may perform in-place upgrade.
