Windows 8 and 8.1 Randomly Freezing My Entire Laptop

This will not solve your problem, but might help you visualise what yours and every computer is actually doing under the hood. Picture a street where every house has a gate. Say, the postman wishes to record where he has and has not delivered. He can leave the gate open to mark every point of delivery. A computer flips Bits in much the same way. Now, if the postman finds a damaged gate and cannot enter, his system fails. Windows does a Fragmentation exercise were it checks every Bit recorded on the Hard Drive. The old routine would show a  screened visual outlay as it flipped every Bit/gate as it moved Data about to store Data in a better organised state on your Hard Drive and you could easily and often see whole arrays of damaged Bits. It is astonishing, when you consider how they function, that these computers work at all. An array of, say, 128 Bits stores data were they carry and flip Data then do a Check Sum to validate its correct state. Your computer works with millions of Bits storing High Pass and Low Pass states to form Binary Words and so on. This long winded reply is saying you might easily have a hardware and not a software fault within your machine's system, maybe, upon your Hard drive.

Jamesjamiel, ha! Ditto on all your points mentioned. Plus three and a half minutes to wake from sleep and or power up. Closing down/ I have no idea as to time because I now close the laptop lid or press power off button, either through software or physically on the machine and leave it. The Hard Drive keeps running and when I go back later in the day the battery is flat. Add to that, the Qualcom Atheros "critical" update brings the Blue Screen Of Death with Update Error 0x80070490, were I have to manually select all, but that damnable update. With automatic updates thus disabled I restore to a much earlier state and carry on. I have known of states in the past were manufacturers and Microsoft have taken two years to recognise and repair bad driver updates and such. Ha! I am so glad they are not building aircraft. Whoops! Oh dear! Their cards and software are all within every Fly By Wire System up there, YIKES!

Thank you for your input. After 1 yr with problems with this horrible laptop I finally got ACER to replace it!!! They sent me a new replacement and since then I havent had any problems.. Thanks again

I got exactly the same problem in my acer aspire v17 nitro that I bought it from Amazon. When I just make my mouse move my laptop freeze. I confront that problem thousand times. After that freezings I controlled the ram status. However, I saw that even %25 percent of ram was not in use. Now I found a really basic solution to that silly freezings and it works so far. I have changed the mouse's usb plug and plugged it to other point and that solved my problem for the nonce. My computer doesn't freeze anymore.

I am having the exact same issue. I was hoping upgrading to Windows 10 would resolve the issue...NOT! Trying a clean install of Windows 10, next.
