Windows 8 and 8.1 Randomly Freezing My Entire Laptop

Hello All,

I recently bought a brand new laptop from Amazon, a very sexy Acer Aspire that I absolutely love! The only problem with this gorgeous piece of work is that I can't use it that much!

It came with Windows 8 and worked fine for the first week, but then it started to randomly freeze. At the time, I thought it was WoW causing the freezing on the machine since that is all I was using it for at first. Several weeks later, when I started to play WoW less and do more on the computer, the freezing would still occur at the most random of times, no matter what I was or was not doing!

Let me be clear. When I say that this computer freezes, I mean that the cursor is frozen, it registers NO input of any kind, even if I faceroll the keyboard and run all of my fingers across its beautiful touch screen. What's equally annoying is that there is NO warning that it's about to happen. When the freeze occurs, I cannot do ANYTHING on the computer.

Once it freezes, the ONLY thing that I can do to fix it is to perform a hard restart, which I HATE to do.

I thought that the problem might be fixed once I upgraded it to 8.1, so I was very excited to install it, but that has not been the case. The problem has been consistent in its occurrence and annoyance.

I cannot, for the life of me, imagine what the issue might be, but if anyone may be able to provide a permanent solution to this problem, I would be eternally grateful to them.

    I have been following the replies and it seems clear that Microsoft is not capable of solving this software issue or doesn't care to. The cursor of Windows 8.1 is a train wreck causing font sizes to change, side pop ups to occur and the screens to toggle between the desktop and the app icon page- all without the wishes of the user. I would not recommend any sane human to purchase any computer with 8.1 based on how mine operates and what I have read from others. Sadly, I find Vista and Windows 7 a far better OS option.  At this point, it doesn't look like Windows 8.1  is ever going to get fixed based on how long the same complaints have been voiced.

    My best wishes to all my friends out there that are suffering along as a 8.1 Windows users.

    Did you ever resolve your issue?  I have the same laptop and am experiencing the same issue.  It does not happen as frequently as yours did.

    Hello.

    I have the same problem but mine freezes on the lock screen. The time freezes at 6:36 am, battery is still not full charged even though it is full charged, the internet connection is still loading.

    I can not do something on it because it freezes on the lock screen. Then I thought that if I turned it off it may start again normally so I turned it off. But then when I opened it up again the lock screen is still the same: same time, same date, same battery percent and the internet connection is still stuck up on loading.

    Can someone please tell me what to do in this problem?? Thanks.

    Hi,

    I have the exact same problem.

    I have a brand new Acer E1-572G and I updated it from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1

    I have read this entire thread.

    I note on the Acer website that there are two BIOS files but I do not know which one I should install or should I install both:

    http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers

    In addition, I note that the driver for my adapter (AMD Radeon R7 M265 series) is labelled:

    Driver version 13.251.9001.1001 Driver date 4/7/14

    I note on the Acer website that the driver they recommend is labelled:

    Driver version 13.152.0.0 Driver date 13/10/13

    So my driver is a newer version. Could this be the problem - is my driver too advanced?

    If my driver is the problem, how can I uninstall the current driver 13.251.9001.1001 and revert to 13.152.0.0

    I would be very grateful for a reply as this is driving me totally mad.

    Mr. Pinaki,

    I believe that I have fixed my issue. For my specific laptop, Acer had released a BIOS update for it, which SEEMS to have worked. I am still testing it to see if the freezing occurs, but since it has not in the last few days, I am beginning to think that I have rid myself of the problem at LONG LAST!!

    I also have the exact same laptop with exactly the same issue, but unfortunately mine still freezes even after updating BIOS. Would be glad if any other solution is available, As I am getting annoyed by this porblem.

     Also my laptop doesnt freeze as often as yours used to, mine freezes like some times twice a day, or once every two days.
