Hello All,
I recently bought a brand new laptop from Amazon, a very sexy Acer Aspire that I absolutely love! The only problem with this gorgeous piece of work is that I can't use it that much!
It came with Windows 8 and worked fine for the first week, but then it started to randomly freeze. At the time, I thought it was WoW causing the freezing on the machine since that is all I was using it for at first. Several weeks later, when I started to play WoW less and do more on the computer, the freezing would still occur at the most random of times, no matter what I was or was not doing!
Let me be clear. When I say that this computer freezes, I mean that the cursor is frozen, it registers NO input of any kind, even if I faceroll the keyboard and run all of my fingers across its beautiful touch screen. What's equally annoying is that there is NO warning that it's about to happen. When the freeze occurs, I cannot do ANYTHING on the computer.
Once it freezes, the ONLY thing that I can do to fix it is to perform a hard restart, which I HATE to do.
I thought that the problem might be fixed once I upgraded it to 8.1, so I was very excited to install it, but that has not been the case. The problem has been consistent in its occurrence and annoyance.
I cannot, for the life of me, imagine what the issue might be, but if anyone may be able to provide a permanent solution to this problem, I would be eternally grateful to them.

I placed the computer in a clean boot state, and within 15 minutes, the poor thing froze just as usual.
I followed all of the directions on the windows 8 website, so I am now thinking it might be some Microsoft software causing the issue.
The only time my computer has NOT frozen is in Safe Mode/Diagnostic Startup.

Since, the issue does not occur in safe mode, it could be other application/services causing the issue.
Did you try to troubleshoot the issue by placing the computer in a clean boot state (as suggested in the first post in Step 2).
If not, try to place the computer in a clean boot state and check if it resolves the issue.

I have finally had time to conduct some tests on my laptop this weekend, and it seems like the problem does not occur in Safe Mode.
GRANTED, I have not had it occur in Safe Mode yet, so that doesn't rule out the problem COMPLETELY in my book, but, I beginning to feel hopeful.
When rebooting into Normal Startup to log on and write this message, my laptop froze up 3 times and I had re-start. I still have NO idea why this is happening, but, I think that it might be software related.
I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to pinpoint what program might be causing this issue to surface?
If it helps, the freezing does not happen after any specific period of time has expired. Sometimes it will happen 3 minutes after booting up...sometimes 4 hours later...sometimes 15 minutes....etc. etc.
I would very much love to resolve this issue since I LOVE Windows 8.1. It is quite the amazing operating system, and I want to be able to use my laptop OUTSIDE of Safe Mode.

It's almost similar, except for the fact that my entire computer freezes. I can't move my mouse or do ANYHING on it EXCEPT to force it to shut down and then turn it back on.
