Win 7 Windows Update 80246002 Unable to run updates

As suggested by Microsoft, the failed security update MS14-045 requires actions to be take. You recommend manual uninstall of KB 2982791. This I did. The system reboots. I then went to try and use Windows Update so that it finds and installs the replacement, KB 2993651.

Windows Update is now corrupted. It issues error code 80246002. All attempts to run the Troubleshooter to fix it, says it is unable to automatically resolved the problem. It has entries with a red X in the list. When you ask for the detailed report, though, it shows no problems against any of the entries.

 now; the first time I ran it, it showed an Error 1 accessing Windows\SoftwareDistribution, access denied.

It's unconscionable that MS should generate even more severe errors when trying to back out from an existing error from a failed update. And simply deleting one KB, now renders the entire Windows Update process unusable.

    You are absolutely correct I am stuck with error 80246002 since yesterday. Now I am putting the blame on the Labor day weekend and a solution would be found by Thursday. If nothing happens by then, then we know that MS and Satia are going down the drain.

    It fixed the problem for me once... then when my PC rebooted after installing updates and I went to check for additional updates the error returned. Any other ideas?

    I have two machines:

    1. Win 7 32-bit (KB2982791 uninstalled, KB2993651 installed)
    2. Win 7 64-bit (KB2982791 installed, KB2993651 not installed)

    Day before yesterday, 32-bit received 80246002 error, but 64-bit worked.

    Yesterday, both systems worked.

    Today, Win Update doesn't work on both machines.

    ISP is Cox Cable.

    Like you, I'm waiting for some official response from MS (or anybody for that matter). Is this a bad patch issue, MS update server problem, or has the Internet gone bonkers?

    MS just fixed the problem please try again just click on "check for updates" and it will take sometime then you will get updates that are important , etc.... just like before and please dont do anything else MS resolved the problem
