Win 7 Windows Update 80246002 Unable to run updates

As suggested by Microsoft, the failed security update MS14-045 requires actions to be take. You recommend manual uninstall of KB 2982791. This I did. The system reboots. I then went to try and use Windows Update so that it finds and installs the replacement, KB 2993651.

Windows Update is now corrupted. It issues error code 80246002. All attempts to run the Troubleshooter to fix it, says it is unable to automatically resolved the problem. It has entries with a red X in the list. When you ask for the detailed report, though, it shows no problems against any of the entries.

now; the first time I ran it, it showed an Error 1 accessing Windows\SoftwareDistribution, access denied.

It's unconscionable that MS should generate even more severe errors when trying to back out from an existing error from a failed update. And simply deleting one KB, now renders the entire Windows Update process unusable.

...which takes you to the Microsoft-sponsored Answer Desk and a third-party support tech.

    That being said...

    1. Are you still getting 80246002 errors?
    2. When (exact date, preferably) did you replace MSE with Avast (Free, I assume)?
    3. What anti-virus application was installed before you installed MSE, was your subscription still current, and did you uninstall it before you installed MSE?
    4. Has a(nother) Norton application or a McAfee application EVER been installed on the computer since you bought it?
    5. Did a Norton free-trial or a McAfee free-trial [PICK ONE] come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)

There's much more going on with your Win8.1-downgraded-to-Win7-and-"recently-reinstalled-Win7-again" computer(s) than meets your eye. To avoid confusion & duplication of effort, please post any/all further follow-up in replies to your original thread =>http://answers.microsoft.com/es-es/ie/forum/ie11-windows_7/content-classification-doesnt-allow-access-to/97139a37-ab92-4928-b57c-85710750c3cf

Same thing here on my windows 7 home premium. it worked on Tuesday (4 days ago) then the next day it didnt. i keep getting error code 80246002. i never installed any new updates between that time.

i called MS support and talked to some guy named Marcus B. we spent a good 3 hours trying to solve the problem. he installed a lot of third party software which drove me crazy because i like having my system clean of that junk, but i let it go. finally, after many failed attempts and reboots latter it worked.

he was utterly convinced that i had a "computer destroying virus". he offered me an antivirus software that costed about $145 a year. he then said that i still had a virus on my computer. i turned down the offer. i had MSE antivirus at the time but now i switched to avast. now, 2 days later the SAME EXACT error code appeared AGAIN!!!

but wait it gets better, my computer is slower, much slower at start up when its booting and my desktop background flashes at startup. im currently in the process of undoing everything he did to my computer. trying to put it back to what it was. if that's even possible.

then, off to fix windows update! ^^

MORAL OF THE STORY: DO NOT CONTACT MS SUPPORT!!!!
