Win 7 Windows Update 80246002 Unable to run updates

As suggested by Microsoft, the failed security update MS14-045 requires actions to be take. You recommend manual uninstall of KB 2982791. This I did. The system reboots. I then went to try and use Windows Update so that it finds and installs the replacement, KB 2993651.

Windows Update is now corrupted. It issues error code 80246002. All attempts to run the Troubleshooter to fix it, says it is unable to automatically resolved the problem. It has entries with a red X in the list. When you ask for the detailed report, though, it shows no problems against any of the entries.

 now; the first time I ran it, it showed an Error 1 accessing Windows\SoftwareDistribution, access denied.

It's unconscionable that MS should generate even more severe errors when trying to back out from an existing error from a failed update. And simply deleting one KB, now renders the entire Windows Update process unusable.

    There's much more going on with your Win8.1-downgraded-to-Win7-and-"recently-reinstalled-Win7-again" computer(s) than meets your eye.     Same thing here on my windows 7 home premium. it worked on Tuesday (4 days ago) then the next day it didnt. i keep getting error code 80246002. i never installed any new updates between that time.

    i called MS support and talked to some guy named Marcus B. we spent a good 3 hours trying to solve the problem. he installed a lot of third party software which drove me crazy because i like having my system clean of that junk, but i let it go. finally, after many failed attempts and reboots latter it worked. 

    he was utterly convinced that i had a "computer destroying virus". he offered me an antivirus software that costed about $145 a year. he then said that i still had a virus on my computer. i turned down the offer. i had MSE antivirus at the time but now i switched to avast. now, 2 days later the SAME EXACT error code appeared AGAIN!!!

    but wait it gets better, my computer is slower, much slower at start up when its booting and my desktop background flashes at startup. im currently in the process of undoing everything he did to my computer. trying to put it back to what it was. if that's even possible.

    then, off to fix windows update! ^^

    MORAL OF THE STORY: DO NOT CONTACT MS SUPPORT!!!!

    Either that or everyone's ISPs are all interconnected with Time Warner.  TW def has a problem.  But for sure something funky/weird is going on with DNS that moving to either Google DNS or OPENDNS is fixing this.
