Surface Arc Touch Mouse not compatible on Windows 7?

Are you sure to have done it with Windows 7 ?

Bought this mouse for HP Pro-book 645 with Win7 x64 installed and was very dissapointed at the beginning. Mouse paired and worked for some time but after switching off/on I was unable to make it work again. Then I found that Microsoft claims this mouse is incompatible with all Win7 so I can blame only myself for not check everything before buy.

Fortunately, problem was solved by replacement of default Wi-Fi+BT module with Intel AC7620 module (20 dollars at Amazon, BT 4.0 with LE support plus 802.11AC Wi-Fi) and installation of the most recent drivers.

Now everything work as expected, have no problem with reconnection after laptop sleep/wake up or mouse switch off/on. So I'm confirming it's not general Win7 problem but BT adapter compatibility issue, BLE support needed.

One more thing I resolved was the "sleeping" or "disconnecting" issue that some other people have reported and I too experienced.   This should solve a number of issues people are reporting with different bluetooth mouse that periodically stop working. 

The issue was that periodically the mouse would stop moving and you had to do a few different things to restart it (eg power on and off, etc) - overall VERY annoying. 

In any case I believe I found the issue.  It's to do with the power management settings for bluetooth.  This needs to be disabled and everything should work perfectly (it has for me now). 

Steps to resolve:

1. open up device manager
2. go to the bluetooth device (the one recently installed as per my previous post) and go to properties for this by right clicking   (see image below)

3. from here go to the power management settings tab
4. uncheck the checkbox that turns off the power to bluetooth  (see below)

this should be the final step to make your new mouse operate perfectly   :)

Good find, Daniel.Fitzgerald.  Standard-issue Windows 7 only supports up to Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR.  You have to update the driver to Bluetooth 4.0 to take advantage of a Bluetooth LE device.

As in my previous post I had the same issues here with my Dell laptop running Windows 7.   After reading through this complete thread for ideas I've come up with a solution that should work for people (provided they have bluetooth hardware that supports, but this should be most people as my laptop is a number of years old).

This post is relevant for the "Arc Touch Bluetooth mouse" and surface mouse.

THERE IS NO ISSUE WITH Windows 7 as people may be suggesting.   It's just bluetooth driver update required and Microsoft should have supported this for this product IMO. 

Steps:

1. Update intel bluetooth driver to version 4.0.  This mouse need this.   go here for the file you need:  http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=M8DRX
2. read notes below for install process and then restart computer
3. after restart, add new bluetooth device.  When the PC is searching for device, turn on the mouse and PC should find it.   My PC found something ("bluetooth Other device") earlier, but this was the first time it came up properly as the MS Arc touch mouse.  Select it and it should connect
4. in the taskbar you should see prompts about the device being installed and then successfully installed.  
5. from here my mouse didn't work initially.  I had to go to bluetooth->view devices and then it started to work (PC may have just needed 10 seconds to finish installing also perhaps).

Notes:

1. the above driver page didn't list my laptop (inspiron 15-5447) but this worked anyway
2. during the install process for the driver there were popups in the task bar saying things were not installed correctly
3. during the install you have to continue 3 or 4 times when the windows security prompt you
