Surface Arc Touch Mouse not compatible on Windows 7?

Well,

Like the rest , I was "willfully" deceived to assume that Microsoft Arc Touch Surface Edition would work with any laptop and OS. Even though i read thru the specifications page, where I read this mouse should work with any laptop having Bluetooth 4.0 LE hardware and support software stack.

So i have Fujitsu S710 with built in bluetooth , i was not able to find its specs even in the product data sheet, so I assume it is Bluetooth 2.0/3.0 .

To overcome the limitation, i bougth an IOGEAR GBU521 bluetooth dongle with bluetooth 4.0 hardware spec.

Then I was perplexed how to plugin the dongle in the laptop already having internal bluetooth enabled, since I was not able to find a utility to selectively disable the internal bluetooth (usually builtin on the WiFI card). So did it via the Windows Device Manager , device disabling option. Avoiding so would presumably result in a confusing bluetooth setup with two (internal and USB dongle) devices active and only having standard Windows 7 (32bit) interface to search for bluetooth devices, and not knowing actually which of the two is working.

Installed IOGEAR GBU521 software supplied on CD. It did not have any effect and did not show the WIDCOMM bluetooth stack drivers icon in my task bar, still the stock windows bluetooth icon displays.

But upon search the via the stock windows 7 menu, i was able to find the Microsoft Arc Mouse SE, which i promptly added glowing with temporary joy...since even after being added there is one mysterious "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" which does not gets installed and the mouse does not work.

Reading this thread I come up with the following queries:

1. It can work with Windows 7 , provided the machine has bluetooth 4.0 hardware (either builtin or USB addon) . Which software stack is supposed to work with it. WIDCOMM or stock Windows 7.
2. It cannot work with Windows 7 at all, even if the Bluetooth 4.0 hardware/software is present.
3. It will work by replacing Windows 7 with Windows 8+ on the same machine having Bluetooth 4.0 hardware/software .
4. Does it work with non surface laptops with Windows 8+. I have an Asus TX 300 Transformer book with Windows 8, have not tried it yet, but is it supposed to work with it.

OK.. so I bought this mouse for my new Dell XPS-12 but would really like to use it with my work computer which is an HP EliteBook (not my choice really).  It is on Win 7 64 bit. I found reference to needing LE Bluetooth so I bought a Plugable bluetooth adapter to get this working.

After installing that along with its drivers, I can finally pair the devices. However, Win7 is telling me that it does not have a driver and I cannot get it to work.

Any ideas?

This worked for me too on an HP Revolve 810 with W7.  I had to update the Bluetooth driver, but after that this process worked!  Thanks!

Thank you!!  I have been using my Arc Mouse Surface Edition mouse with my Windows 7 work laptop for a few months now.  After seeing your post, I went to the Dell support site and saw there was a Bluetooth driver update from last Fall that I did not have.  I updated the driver and presto, the mouse now works!

The only downside is that I need to re-pair it with either device when going from one to the other.  I cannot get the menu that you show in your post.  I have not downloaded the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center.

If I have already paired it with the laptop, but later used it with the Surface Pro and then go back to the laptop, the profile is still there on my laptop.  I hold the button on the mouse to pair it, and then have two profiles for the mouse, so I delete the old one.  The same thing happens when I go back to my Surface Pro- I have to hold down the pair button, wait for it to pair (which takes a while sometimes) and then get two entries for the mouse.  I can't see how to pair with the old profile for the mouse in either laptop or Surface Pro.

Minor inconvenience compared to being able to use it on both devices.

I managed to get as far as pairing the device with my Win7 laptop, however when I click on "Bluetooth LE Services" it won't work no matter how many times I click "Try Again". Has anyone else faced this issue and come across a workaround?
