Surface Arc Touch Mouse not compatible on Windows 7?

Hey all. I recently bought a Surface Pro 2. I later bought a Surface Arc Mouse. Long story short, I had to return my Surface. So, as of now I am on my laptop and I cannot get my laptop's bluetooth to discover my mouse (it's in discovery mode).

I tried googling around and couldn't find anything. Am I stuck?

As in my previous post I had the same issues here with my Dell laptop running Windows 7.   After reading through this complete thread for ideas I've come up with a solution that should work for people (provided they have bluetooth hardware that supports, but this should be most people as my laptop is a number of years old).

This post is relevant for the "Arc Touch Bluetooth mouse" and surface mouse.

THERE IS NO ISSUE WITH Windows 7 as people may be suggesting.   It's just bluetooth driver update required and Microsoft should have supported this for this product IMO.

    Steps:

    1. Update intel bluetooth driver to version 4.0.  This mouse need this.   go here for the file you need:  http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=M8DRX
    2. read notes below for install process and then restart computer
    3. after restart, add new bluetooth device.  When the PC is searching for device, turn on the mouse and PC should find it.   My PC found something ("bluetooth Other device") earlier, but this was the first time it came up properly as the MS Arc touch mouse.  Select it and it should connect
    4. in the taskbar you should see prompts about the device being installed and then successfully installed.
    5. from here my mouse didn't work initially.  I had to go to bluetooth->view devices and then it started to work (PC may have just needed 10 seconds to finish installing also perhaps).

    Notes:

    1. the above driver page didn't list my laptop (inspiron 15-5447) but this worked anyway
    2. during the install process for the driver there were popups in the task bar saying things were not installed correctly
    3. during the install you have to continue 3 or 4 times when the windows security prompt you

Hope this helps some people with this problem

    thanks

    Daniel

This worked for my Dell Latitude E6430s running Windows 7.  It has a Dell 380 Bluetooth 4.0 Module manufactured by Broadcom.  Thanks to this thread: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/network-internet-wireless/f/3324/t/19482345 and thanks to Lenovo for publishing updated Bluetooth drivers for Windows 7 the following drivers allowed me to use the Microsoft Arc Touch Surface Edition bluetooth mouse in Windows 7.  I don't know if it's a low-energy thing or some other Bluetooth 4.0 feature, but the drivers below helped:

Direct download for Windows 7 drivers for this Broadcom module.

    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/h0wv09ww.exe

    Driver details page: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-edge-laptops/thinkpad-edge-e430/downloads/DS028704

Also tried the Win8/8.1 drivers from Lenovo but it halted at setup stating incompatible OS.

The original Dell drivers were version 6.5.1.2321 dated 13/02/2012.

Working Lenovo drivers version is 6.5.1.4103 dated 28/03/2013.

The Broadcom update installer at: http://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth/update.phpwould not go past the detection stage even though the chip is Broadcom.  I didn't bother with these Dell-provided Windows 8 drivers because they are an older version published in 2012: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=VY4F2

    Edit:

Having problems when the mouse sleeps or after reboots, must always remove and add device in Devices & Printers.

These even newer version 6.5.1.4500 dated 13/05/2013 Broadcom drivers did not make any substantial difference. BCM20702 drivers for Windows 7 Direct link: http://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/j6be02ww.exe

in case Lenovo changes their link or the file becomes unvailable: j6be02ww Broadcom bluetooth drivers Win7.exe

Actually, just double clicking on the mouse in "Devices and Printers" automatically brings up this Bluetooth LE Services screen and connects to the mouse.  I created a shortcut to this in my start menu so I can quickly reconnect the mouse when I need to.

Not so. It is a special edition mouse.. see here..

    https://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-ca/support/touch-mouse-and-search/touch-mouse

And this is the important part..

Can I use my Surface touch mouse with other PCs?

Yes, you can use the Wedge Touch Mouse or Arc Touch Mouse for Surface with other compatible Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 computers. For more info, see the Microsoft Hardware Compatibility list.

Note The Arc Touch Mouse for Surface requires a Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 PC that’s compatible with Bluetooth Smart Ready.

This is the Microsoft Hardware Compatibility list..

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/ProductViewerWithDefaultFilters?TempOsid=Windows%208.1&Locale=en-us&Architecture=X64&TextSearch=Surface%2Barc%2Bmouse&Type=Both&CurrentPage=0&TotalPages=1&ShowCriteria=0&SortCriteria=Relevance&Compatibility=Unknown&LastRequested=14

Note the lack of any mention of Windows 7. There will NEVER be a Windows 7 driver for this mouse..

It is a Surface Arc Mouse, not a PC Arc mouse, specially made to complement the Surface machines. There is no provision for it to be used with anything but a Surface.

There are similar mice for PC's in general within the Microsoft range. Perhaps you could return the mouse, explaining the predicament and exchange it for a similar mouse which would work on either system type..
