I also been trying to upgrade for a couple of months until such time that I already stopped trying and just accepted the fact that I'm stocked with Windows. I installed all the updates, did a store reset, change different networks, via LAN, via Wi-Fi, I even used a Mobile Broadband.

But last night was just my luck.  I installed the latest Windows updates. Updated the apps from Win Store and tried to click Win 8.1 update. It was unsuccessful of course. With frustration, I just opened my torrent app, left my PC running then went to bed. When I woke up, viola. The Windows 8.1 set up page. I don't even know what I did, or what or who updated it. Maybe its just luck. So my friends, just keep trying. Who knows? Maybe this is your lucky day.

My answers to the question?? HAVE A LITTLE FAITH AND KEEP TRYING

    Hi Sagar,

Follow these steps, run the command, restart the computer and check the issue status.

    a) Press Windows and X key together and select Command Prompt (admin).

    b) Type the following command and hit Enter after each:

netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)

    Hi all,

I finally got it to work at 60% now and running.

    1. Disabled defender and much to my surprise another optional update showed up as mentioned before in the thread.
    2. ran the following command "netsh winsock reset" and restarted my laptop
    3. disabled screen power off and sleep
    4. spent the next 1 hour looking at the progress bar and holding my breath when I hit 50%

So far all looks good. If I hit any issues ill report back.

I have the same exact issue.  Here is my experience to date:

Went to the Microsoft Support site and opted for online support.  Got a tech who ran some diagnostics, had me re-try the download, and even had me re-install my Windows 8 from scratch.

Did that, no luck.  Had me create a new Microsoft account.  Did that.  No luck.

Assigned me a ticket to escalate the problem to Tier 2.

    Here's where things got interesting.

Tier 2 tech missed the first 7 callback appointments over 3 days which had me waiting a total of 14 hours for someone to contact me about the issue.

I called the Microsoft help line and was eventually passed to someone who claimed to be the supervisor of Tier 2 support, by the name of Jan-Michael Nubla who told me that all Tier 2 support agents had gone home for the day and there was no one who could help me.  I later learned this was a complete lie - Tier 2 techs are on staff 24 hours a day.

So if you have this problem, prepare to waste a ton of time, be lied to about callbacks and even direct lies to you face, and still I have no resolution to the problem.

Microsoft gets a massive "F" for support on this.
