Regarding  your clean install and the persistence of the problem, make sure you have done all updates even on a clean install.  One of my two successes was after a clean Windows 8 install over a Windows 8.1 Preview Version.  Even with a clean install of Windows 8, I had to perform 73 Windows Updates on the clean version of Windows 8 before the download would begin and complete.  The update KB 2871389 was the last manual update I had to perform (it did not update from the automatic update links) and the download began from the Windows Store after it was installed.

    Hey Everybody,

Just thought I should let you know that I managed to get it to work. I downloaded the ISO version and then installed from my desktop. Don't exactly know why it worked, must have been a connection issue but w/e.

    Very frustrating process

Indeed... how did you get the iso? Inquiring minds would like to know....

I did a clean install of Windows 8, and the problem persists.
