Anyone know if McAfee would interfere with the update?  I am up to date on all available updates.  I'm on a new Lenovo A730 touchscreen.  I'm hating Win8!  I figure 8.1 will mitigate some of the things I hate about it.

I am getting error code 0x80240031 during download of Windows 8.1 for 50% of Downloading. Can anybody help me fix this?

    I found simple fix:

Fixed it by disconnecting wired connection and using wireless. Since the other guy fixed it with the use of VPN, I suspect the patch is downloaded without error corrections (like in FTP protocol), and if checksum is wrong, this error is generated. Using extra protocol, like VPN and wireless that corrects for errors solves this problem. That's my theory anyway. I have seen this problem with other ftp downloads, when I just could not download large file with right checksum over wired internet connection, but I can with WiFi.All my download attempts have been over wireless and all failed.

    Hi all,

This maybe a way to solve this problem. As the error code: 0x80240031 is from your PC had been received the damaged file, The cause of this problem maybe happen from Microsoft's Content Delivery Network (CDN) or your ISP's Transparent Proxy Server which you are using. But, my case is happen from Transparent Proxy Server of True Online.

Here, this is the way to deal with this problem. Try to reset Window Store by using the command "wsreset.exe" through Run (Windows Key + R) and connect your PC with the Public VPN (try to should different ISP) and try to update again.
