    Hi All,

Try Windows Update Troubleshooter. You might be able to automatically fix some problems by running the Windows Update Troubleshooter

    Hope it helps!

I tried going to the link you provided but the page says We're sorry, but your operating system is not supported by Microsoft Fix it at this time.

LOL.  That's where I bought my new computer.  They were useless!  I'm not saying this is the cure all, but here were my steps, after retrying the download 7 times!

    1.  Made sure there were no outstanding updates.  Restrted my computer
    2.  Turned off my internet connection while unprotected.
    3.  Uninstalled McAfee completely
    4.  Restarted my computer
    5.  Turned on my internet connection
    6.  Went to the Microsoft store and hit the Upgrade to 8.1 box
    7.  Started the download

    It worked!

I am using Defender for my security.  I had great luck using Microsoft security essentials.  Defender is the next iteration of that.  I find the 3rd party security apps to be too invasive and too much resource overhead.

I've run the update trouble-shooter and the fix-it download by Microsoft and still have error 80240031. I am about to take this beast of a problem and let Best Buy deal with it.

    HI

Did you happen to try to run the Windows Update trouble-shooter that I suggested a few posts ago?  Many of the Windows update components are also used as part of the install
