Windows 8.1 Update Error Code: 0x80240031

After trying all of the mentioned solution and still having no luck I found a solution.

The solution for me to this issue was to uninstall sql server 2005. after a bit of research I found that it is not compatible with win8.1 so I removed it and tried again. This time it worked.

FIX FOUND! After trying to resolve this problem myself for more than a week I decided to call Microsoft. THANK THE LORDS I DID. 

The technical guy connected to my PC via remote connection and performed something called a "Winsock Reset" I personally don't know what this is but it worked! Search it up and I'm sure you'll find some results.

IF THIS DOESN'T WORK, THE 40 MINUTE CALL TO MICROSOFT IS WORTH IT.

I''ll wait for Windows 9 this summmer... I hate still with the problems to install Windows 8.1.

This is seriously still not taken care of? I purchased a laptop on Friday and have been working vigorously trying to get the update installed. I have gone through all the possible fixes that have worked for others, and also I got in touch with Acer last night and they had me do some other weird **** and it still didn't work. The only thing I have not tried is downloading the ISO and doing it that way. Why the **** is Microsoft blatantly ignoring this? Best Buy told me this is a regular issue with Windows 8 and I could trade my laptop in for another one...just not the one I have because they don't have it anymore and I don't want another computer, and if the computer hardware isn't the problem why should I be swapping out computers???? This is the same laptop I purchased for my mother in law for Christmas and I set it up for her and didn't have any problems doing any of the updating for hers. 129 replies later Microsoft HELLOOOOO????
