pity we don't see sentiments like these widely published on all of the National news outlets world-wide... Maybe M$ could then muster some incentive to DO THE RIGHT THING!!!

    Thanks for the advice.

The "Windows Update troubleshooter" does detect two problems and claims it is able to resolve them (this seems to be similar to running the sfc /scannow script). However, I still get the same error code (0x80240031), and the Windows 8.1 updater does not skip those "annoying 50%".

    Any other suggestions?

    Best regards,

    Michael

Hello, I experienced this problem and know the legitimate way to fix this.

So what you need to do to fix this is type in in the search menu; on your PC "**Find and fix problems"**Click on it, and click on "Fix problems with Windows Update"

Click "Next" it will run a short scan. 75% of the time it will come up with "Issues might be found

troubleshootiing with administrator permissions" In this case click on "Try troubleshooting

as an administrator" Next it will say "Detecting Problems", "Resolving Problems". This means

your computer is fixing the vital things needed for Windows Update to Windows 8.1

Hopefully next what will happen is a list of things that windows detected and resolved; ready for

your update for Windows 8.1 - Click on "Close" and go ahead and try to install Windows 8.1

It will go past the annoying 50% and then "0x80240031 Error Code" and Successfully install the

    windows update!

    Hope this helped, Jack Cruz
