i guess the internet connection would have got disturbed again and again , resulting in the incomplete download. But i then went to my friend's place who has a different ISP and was able to download it in a single time.

I am getting error code 0x80240031 during download of Windows 8.1 for 50% of Downloading. Can anybody help me fix this?

What does that mean? The ISP is caching the file? Incompletely? Obsoletely? Perhaps you could have tried using HTTPS instead. No caching possible then.
