Nokia Software Recovery Tool

I have a lumia 1020 that was on the dev preview, the phone is from Telus. I had it unlocked as I travel to the US frequently and wanted to use a different SIM while travelling.

I used the nokia software recovery tool to restore my phone so I could get back to the original SW build and in doing so the image/ROM that was downloaded through the recovery tool has put on some other, non telus ROM. this ROM was on 8.0 & black.

this is an issue for me as Telus has an app and "collection" in the store with specific apps taht I can no longer download because my device isn't recognized as a Telus device. so I try to restore again to get back on the Telus build. I tried a few more times to soft reset, hard reset and then delete all the files from the c:\programdata folder so the recovery tool would download a new image.

so then I restore again using the tool. the most recent image that was downloaded is WP 8.1 on cyan, so I guess that is a good thing...but still not being able to access carrier specific apps from a phone I bought from a carrier is pretty annoying, and would not have happened if I never used the software recovery tool in the first place...

I would appreciate if the nokia team can respond to let me know what would force the tool to use a different ROM than what the phone was originally shipped with.

The phoen itself is about a year old so warranty is out, but I do have device protection from Telus on it so before I go return the device and get a replacement, I would prefer to tackle this myself first.

and after what I expereinced I would have to say that the statement from 93tid is not correct/accurate based on the fact taht I have only unlocked my phone, and had dev preview on it before.....

I would also add that there is no cortana on my build and the region is set to Canada as it should be.

there are a few apps pre-installed that might help identify which build my phone thinks it is... these apps were never pre installed before to my knowledge, but maybe they were and then promptly uninstalled... the Telus optik TV app was preinstalled before so this isn't a telus build IMO..

We need your Nokia Product Code which was shown in the Nokia Software Recovery Tool. The same code should be written on your Nokia Lumia 1020, I think in the SIM tray – not sure where this is on a Nokia Lumia 1020. If they match, the tool did everything correctly. Then, the problem is something elseand we have to investigate.

product code is: 059T1V8 which doesn't match any numbers of the 3 lines of the alphanumeric sequence on the back side of the SIM tray

just to reiterate, it was bought off contract from a Telus store on Oct 4, 2013 about a day or two after it was available on the carrier.

Regarding cortana; thanks for the tip, but did you read that it was actually available in Canada? it is also posted here on the microsoft website, CORTANA IS AVAILABLE IN CANADA, so not sure what your trying to imply there m8... rad the post on the MSFT website if you need clarification..

Cortana

Cortana is available in Australia, Canada, China, the United Kingdom and the United States.

I have done my due diligence to ensure all language and regional settings are set correctly. and guess what, no cortana...

I don't expect you to explain to me how it is not available to me using a device from a Canadian carrier which was restored using the Nokia tool and set to a Canadian region, language etc....but, hey, I do have some hope still left in me..

sorry for the rant and such, but I'm pissed about this and would liek to use my phone with all the features it was designed and supported for.

I have also followed up with the carrier (Telus) and all they told me was to bring it in to the store so they could send it back to Nokia, so I guess that is what I will do in the next day or so and hopefully get a replacement for time being....

if there are any other suggestions, appreciate the input but, I'm (sad to say) doubtful of a proper resolution that doesn't involve sending it back to Nokia to restore, or get a replacement device...
