Printer spooler won't start at startup - Windows 8.1

Hi,

Problem started with trying to add a home network printer. I get the error message "Windows can't open Add Printer. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper."

Each time I boot the PC I have to go to Services and start the Printer Spooler, and then I can add printers, and print, but after a reboot I have to repeat this action again.

The Printer Spooler is set to automatic, but like I say it won't start automatically.

I also checked out the c:\windows\system32\spool\printers folder but it was empty. (deleting all files in this folder has been offered as a solution)

Has anyone worked this one out yet? There seems to be a few people suffering the same issue.

SOLUTION!!! This worked for me and I have tested it over and over again.

"As suspected by many, the problem is Kaspersky related.

I found a solution: download kavremvr.exe (Kaspersky Lab Products Remover), run the program, select "<Remove all known products>" and then click on "Remove".

Restart the computer, wait, do not panic, the first reboot is slow.

On the first reboot, still the spooler will not restart automatically.

Again, restart the computer, everything should be ok now."

I originally had Kaspersky antivirus installed from the manufacturer which I removed thru add / remove programs back when I had windows 8. I guess not everything was removed when I originally uninstalled it. You must do the 2nd restart as described above for it to work. I found this solution on another thread while searching different keywords trying to get answers.

I have tried with at least 6 different printers at my work and every time I restart my computer I have to manually start the print spool. It has nothing to do with the printers but with the print spool not starting automatically. When I used the 8.1 trial I did not have this problem.

Hi,

There seems to be some kind of problem concerning the Print Spooler and Upgrading to Win 8.1, but you've noticed that I'm sure....

The point I'm trying to make is that you will probably need to reinstall the printers to fix the Print Spooler problem... That's what I had to do.

My Print Spooler started automatically as it is supposed to, but would hang at around 50% CPU when trying to print....

Another thing that seems to happen in the Upgrade, at least on my machines (2), is that Bidirectional Support was disabled, even though it was "Enabled" on Win 8 before upgrading...

I tried what you said for my home printer and it still won't start automatically. I also noticed that even after I uninstalled every printer on my pc, then restarted, I could not add a new printer until I turned on the print spool in services. It gave me the no more end points available message. I guess I could try refreshing windows 8.1 but I hate to have to reinstall all my software. Going to keep messing with it for now before I throw in the towel and refresh.

Hi,

I'm not sure how you are doing this, but you shouldn't need to "Add" a printer... The printer installation should take care of that... When you go to Devices and Printers, it should be there...

Are you using the Printers installation files, or just default windows stuff?
