I have just waded through all of those updates 1 at a time and if you un-install KB2917929 it will solve the problem. Believe it or not Microsoft call it a compatibility update!!!!

Installed adobe acrobat 7.0 pro on windows 8.1 machine. Everything seemed to install correctly but when I try launching the program i get a message:
Acrobat.exe - application error
The applicalication was unable to start correctly (0xc00000fd). Click OK to close the application.
Please help!

2014-07-17T14:21:11+00:00 Tried to install Acrobat 8.0. The installation aborted because a ddl file needed admin privileges to access a folder. Altough Acrobat 7 can't work in Update 1 the installation works fine.

If you have your login account connected to Microsoft Account, disconnect it from Microsoft account. Go to "PC Setting --> account". Disconnect your self from Microsoft account.

2014-09-04T11:32:31+00:00 I have the same Acrobat 6.0 starting problem. Unfortunately, I cannot find update KB2912829 and of cannot uninstall it. Any other update that I should uninstall to solve my problem. I installed Win 8.1 and it had the Acrobat compatibility since first installed.
