Adobe Acrobat on Windows 8.1

Installed adobe acrobat 7.0 pro on windows 8.1 machine. Everything seemed to install correctly but when I try launching the program i get a message:

Acrobat.exe - application error

The applicalication was unable to start correctly (0xc00000fd). Click OK to close the application.

Please help!

I have just waded through all of those updates 1 at a time and if you un-install KB2917929 it will solve the problem. Believe it or not Microsoft call it a compatibility update!!!!

    I've windows 8.1 update 1 installed, with all microsoft update up to yesterday. I've tried all those tricks you suggested and at least I uninstalled all updates except KB.....355, which is obviuosly required for Update 1 to be working but Acrobat 7.1.14 can't start at all. I've got the same message error. I hope someone can find the solution or

    I hope Microsoft releases a patch either but I don't have much confidence that to happen, since Acrobat 7 is too long no longer supported...

    I have experienced the same problem with Acrobat 7 on a brand new HP running Windows 8.1, whilst it did run on the older PC on Windows 8 .

    I deleted the updates KB2917929  and others referred to in earlier mails with no success. I have now downloaded  Adobe 8 from the site Arielil refers to ( MANY THANKS !!), found the same requirement for adobePdf.dll file, found it ( and I am 69 !), and it seems to work just fine .

     Now just worried that I will have more glitches with Windows 8.1.....

    Find it free at http://www.techspot.com/downloads/4683-adobe-acrobat-8.html,,  install it in Compatible mode for XP service pack 3.  The only snag I had was that it needed adobePdf.dll file in the middle of the installation which did not cause a problem since the installation simply paused until I found the file and then continued flawlessly.. which you will have to browse for in your windows folder stored on the pc.   Once in the windows folder look for " Syswow64"  It will be in there.  I successfully installed on 8.1,
