Russian mnemonic keyboard three letters missing: щ ч э

It is nice that windows 8 added a mnemonic Russian keyboard.

Unfortunately there are three letters which I can not find: щ, ч and э.

These three letters exist in the standard Russian keyboard. They are at the following location (in the US  keyboard): o,x and '.

Without these three letters the mnemonic keyboard is useless

You just need to type multiple keys to get to those letters: For example some (not all) of them:

sh -> ш

ch -> ч

jo -> ё

je -> э

And this is just awesome. This means you just type the way it sounds and Russian letters just magically produced.

Chego eschjo xhelat'? -> Чего ещё желать?

Note that the left hand side is quite readable as is.

One not very obvious aspect is the way the combination "ые" is typed, by the way. You actually need to hit the spacebar after typing [English] 'y', so that the keyboard knows you are in fact typing 'ы' and not the first element of ’э', which is entered using the English key sequence 'ye'. By contrast, if you want to type 'ые’ (as in 'красивые') you need to type '[krasiv]y[spacebar]e.'

Was frustrating for me before I figured that one out...

    Hi Paul

    Thanks for sending me so fast your mnemonic source files. I unzipped kbdru_y and used it in MSKLC as source. I also took the precaution of running  MSKLC as administrator. It still did not work, again the same error: CL.EXE , RC.EXE and LINK.EXE returned 1

    Hi Gerhard,

    Try using the T2-belegungskompatible Tastatur V1.05 source MSKLC source code file from

    http://www.t2-tastatur.de/

    Select the Startseite page, and then click on the "Nähere technische Information" link at the bottom of that page, you should then have a page with a link for the source code file.

    That is what I've used and it works fine for me (I've just tried it again now and it builds on my machine).  If this works and you can build the installer, don't forget to log out and log back in again to make it fully active.

    The only other thing I can think of from Googling this is, if all else fails, try installing MKLC into C:\MKLC instead of into C:\Program Files\MKLC so that you now have a location without spaces anywhere in the directory names, just in case that is causing problems.

    The problem is on a system with 8.3 file names (aka short file names)

    disabled -- since the default install dir is in "Program Files" and has

    other spaces in the app dir, the tool converts to short file names for the

    compile, which obviously fails when short file names are disabled. The

    workaround would be to install MSKLC to a directory that does not have

    spaces in the path.
