"There was an error when attempting to connect to the Windows Live Calendar service. If the error persists, check to see if there's an upgrade of Windows Live Mail available or contact a service representative."

I am running W7 and WLM has been working fine up until this afternoon when it decided that I was not online, would not let me go online and would not allow me to reliably send or receive my email. I repaired the WLM installation and restarted my computer but this problem persists. an occasional Connecting has been hit and miss and I received the error message above. I never use the Calendar service so I don't understand what is going on. I rely on reliable email and help would be deeply appreciated. Thank you in advance.

It sounds as if something (a third-party browser, for example) has set the GlobalUserOffline registry value to True. With Windows Live Mail closed, launch Internet Explorer and press Alt-F to open the File menu. If Work offline is selected, click it to deselect it. If it's not selected, select it, wait a moment then deselect it.

Now try to launch Windows Live Mail again. Do you get the same error?

In 2013, this was a common error caused by interference from third-party browsers. This interference has been dealt with on recent versions of Windows (7, 8.1 and 10) so the cause of the error is now likely to be a different one. This answer no longer applies, except perhaps on XP and Vista.

If you have recently started seeing this error, then it's not likely that repairing the installation will help. Please read the green text in the answer at the top of this thread.

I get a pop up message reading; 'no internet connection'...

Are you perhaps still using Windows Live Mail 2011? That version has been obsolete since 2012 on all versions of Windows later than Vista.

If not, you should be able to upgrade to Windows Essentials 2012 with no particular problem; it should install seamlessly over your current version. The only casualty might be your default contacts list (the one you see when you're not signed in with a Microsoft Account in Windows Live Mail). Your accounts, folders and messages should all be in place after the upgrade, but to be sure, make a copy of your store folder and keep it in a safe place. By default, the store folder is this one:

%localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail

(You can open it by copying that black line, pressing Windows key + R, Ctrl-V to paste into the box and Enter.)

Doesn't work....I pressed 'repair' & the meter loads slowly & gets almost to completion and then I get a pop up message reading; 'no internet connection'...which is wrong because my connection is secure. :(

Yes. As I stated, I tried everything that was offered on this forum. However, I'm not going to delete my contacts.
