Call of duty 4 crashes in Windows 8.

my call of duty 4 doesent work in win 8. it gives me this mesage at a random time:

iw3mp.exe has stopped working

i have tryed googeling and found some ansers that dident work on my pc.

i have made no upgrades on my pc and instaled a clean win 8. jet call of duty 4 isent working on win 8 while it whas working on win 7.

i hope someone can help me fix this problem.

Hello to all

I found the solution, u will get ur cod4 crashed if u r using xfire for launching the game or if u already used it once and xfire is running in backround, it will still crashes, first att all try to exit xfire and try then, if the problem is still there u have to let pb services to run on desktop, set full control, after that is done u have to instal pbsvc again, and download pb files for Cod4 cuz Punkbuster is not supporting cod4 anymore, when u copy files to pb file of cod4 problem should be solved, those guys from Microsoft are not even tryin to help...

    i just let punkbuster run  in compatibilitymode for windows 7 and it works fine for me

    How long you have played with that? I enabled it, 20 mins, ithought it was success, but only I said to my mate In-Game that everything works now - game crashed. Funny situation.

    Hey all, Ive been playing CoD4 for years now, and I got a new computer with W8. I was able to play just fine for quite a while (Dec 2012-Jan 2013) but now I've been having the same damn issues with this all. I'll be playing in a PB server, and then all of a sudden, I'll get that dreadful "iw3mp.exe has stopped working" message. I've tried every single 'solution' mentioned on the internet, all to no avail. I do have the Realtek sound card so at first I thought that was the problem. Disabled everything about it and checked them all one by one. Still getting kicked. Then I started scrutinizing PB. Disabled it, updated it, rolled it back to a previous version, ran in compatibility mode, everything. Still getting kicked. Honestly, I really dont want to have to downgrade back to W7 just to play a game, but if this issue keeps going on for much longer, I might just have to.

    Hello Mark,

    I invested a lot of time trying to find out why my COD4 crash under Windows 8. (all methods described in this article, change the sound board to not have Relatek chipset Inside, connected microphone etc. Finally on my last try, I reinstalled cod4 on another partition and when was asked to install PunkBuster, I choose NO (same for ActiveX). So I had to install PB in a second time but by chance, when PB was checking for update, the Eventbalance web site was done. So I had to play without Punkbuster on cod4 sites that do no have PB restriction - and everything works well !

    After installing PunkBuster 2 days later, crash occurs again ! Now I can only play on cod4 site that have no PB check. The problem for me is clarealy realated to PunkBust compatiblity under Windows 8.
