Call of duty 4 crashes in Windows 8.

my call of duty 4 doesent work in win 8. it gives me this mesage at a random time:

iw3mp.exe has stopped working

i have tryed googeling and found some ansers that dident work on my pc.

i have made no upgrades on my pc and instaled a clean win 8. jet call of duty 4 isent working on win 8 while it whas working on win 7.

i hope someone can help me fix this problem.

Hello to all

I found the solution, u will get ur cod4 crashed if u r using xfire for launching the game or if u already used it once and xfire is running in backround, it will still crashes, first att all try to exit xfire and try then, if the problem is still there u have to let pb services to run on desktop, set full control, after that is done u have to instal pbsvc again, and download pb files for Cod4 cuz Punkbuster is not supporting cod4 anymore, when u copy files to pb file of cod4 problem should be solved, those guys from Microsoft are not even tryin to help...

    Just played on a cracked server with PunkBuster switched "off", multiplayer, having no problems at all so Punkbuster must be the problem....

    yeah, I can play on a non pb zombie server no problem. windows 8 just doesn't like pbcl.dll

    I'm having same problem, none work, if PB is the prob it should keep working on cracked servers with PB disabled? i will try...

    If it where the sound card, it wouldn't it have the same issue in WIN7 in this case??

     

    I believe the issue is with PunkBuster, they have had issue in the past on WIN and MAC machines, with WIN 8 being new - plus the random time  - it sounds like PB is the issue.  Since this issue is widespread with many different titles from different manufactures

    • the one common piece is PB.

     

    We are talking about 100 of thousand of people who play games like COD and others that most likely would upgrade to WIN8, but wont because of the issue.  My COD4 groups has 100's of members and they are not looking at WIN8 because of this issue.

     

    Someone needs to step up and fix the issue, Microsoft needs to determine the issue and fix it or put pressure to get PB to fix the issue sooner then later.

     

    I also play cod4 with a large group of people, only a few of us were dumb enough to downgrade to windows 8. now we cant play our game. evenbalance is silent on the issue and has not replied to my support ticket in a month and Microsoft just keeps spitting out the same non-working fix, which no doubt has wasted countless hours of user's time.
