Windows Update KB2670838 may affect Windows Live Mail on Windows 7

On 26 February, an update called a platform update was released through Windows Update to coincide with the release of Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7. IE10 requires this update, which 'improves the features and performance' of a number of display components. Some users have found that the update affects the display of Windows Live Mail. Other problems ranging from blank screen in Resource Manager to Blue Screen of Death have been reported by users who found that the problem went away if the update was uninstalled.

If you are seeing this problem with Windows Live Mail, the first thing to do is to check with your graphics card/computer manufacturer for updated display drivers. If you're already using the latest, you may have to uninstall the update until a remedy is found. To do so, open Windows Update in Control Panel and click on Installed updates in the bottom left-hand corner. Locate the update, select it and click Uninstall. If this update was installed along with IE10, IE10 will also be uninstalled. If you have automatic updates configured, you should hide the update so it doesn't install again.

It might be helpful to the product team if those affected posted a reply to this thread explaining the symptoms and giving the make and model of their computer and its graphics card.

Hello there,

I have very similar problem to this. MY WL Mail and WL Messenger does not start after installation of these actualizations. So they try to that, but crasch without any more accurate report. Only regular anatotion about that the WL xy services stopped working and Windows are about terminate the program and Windows are about to tell me if there is some solution has been shown. Any solution has not been offered.

My graphic card is ASUS EAH 6770 (Radeon HD 6770).

For interest. When I've installed the new drivers for graphic card (unfortunately distributed only in beta version at this time) the Windows Live Mail has started to working normally, but only till next restart (the installation does not required restart).

Also experiencing the problem after installing IE10 and KB2670838. Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Photo Gallery crash immediately when trying to start them. Problem was fixed when I installed NVidia GeForce drivers 314.22 for my GeForce GTX560, but only until next reboot of Windows. After reboot, Windows Live apps crash on start again.

Using Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit (SP1)

I will be glad to assis you with your concern. It's possible that the issue was caused by a corrupted program file in Windows Live Mail client installed in your desktop. Kindly repair Windows Live Mail by following the steps below:
1. Go to Control Panel.
2. Under Programs, click Uninstall a Program.
3. Locate Windows Live Essential 2011 then click Uninstall/Change.
4. When a window appears, select Repair all Windows Live programs.
5. Restart your computer after the repair.

I've already tried to repair my WLM installation when the problem occurred. This failed to make any difference. Currently the only successful solution I've found is to uninstall the update.

Hello,

I have the same experiences with repairation like LenB123. But I have done some drivers hokus pokus meanwhile, so I can try this again a then I will tell you what happened.
