Windows Update KB2670838 may affect Windows Live Mail on Windows 7

On 26 February, an update called a platform update was released through Windows Update to coincide with the release of Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7.  IE10 requires this update, which 'improves the features and performance' of a number of display components. Some users have found that the update affects the display of Windows Live Mail. Other problems ranging from blank screen in Resource Manager to Blue Screen of Death have been reported by users who found that the problem went away if the update was uninstalled.

Here is one user's screenshot:

If you are seeing this problem with Windows Live Mail, the first thing to do is to check with your graphics card/computer manufacturer for updated display drivers. If you're already using the latest, you may have to uninstall the update until a remedy is found. To do so, open Windows Update in Control Panel and click on Installed updates in the bottom left-hand corner. Locate the update, select it and click Uninstall. If this update was installed along with IE10, IE10 will also be uninstalled. If you have automatic updates configured, you should hide the update so it doesn't install again.

It might be helpful to the product team if those affected posted a reply to this thread explaining the symptoms and giving the make and model of their computer and its graphics card.

    Hi All

An update, and I need help!

In reference to my post of November 12 2013, in this thread...

I updated to IE11 many months ago with no problems, then a month ago I had to send the computer for repair. On rebuild I was unable to find my copy of Intel software "Win64_152818.exe". dated 08/18/2013 and can go no further. I get constant crashes. Does anyone have a good copy of this software? I emailed Intel support and the only thing they could offer was to recommend their latest patch, which causes more problems than it fixes.

In anticipation of good news, Thanks

Thank you LenB123, removing Asus Gamer OSD solved the issue for me too, what a relief!

    I believe I'm using an ASUS HD6670

Had this for months since the KB267... update, removing it and I lost Explorer 11, new graphics drivers or repairing Live essentials  didn't help. Found that removing display adapter in device manager or graphics drivers made Live essentials work only on first startup after drivers installed, can't do that all the time.

Today I removed Live essentials 2011 and installed 2012, not working. Goggled more reading other threads from 2015 no help and then I read this thread again first time was on 1 February before your post.

My wife has an ASUS Ultrabook and installing some of the software and drivers ASUS supplies caused problems for her as well.  Uninstalling those ASUS-specific programs solved the problem.

Removing Asus Gamer OSD fixed the problem for me as well. I'm using Asus ENGTX 560 Ti graphics card and Intel Core i7 in a P8P67 Deluxe Asus motherboard. I had the same problem as everyone else here before finding the above solution. As additional information, if anyone else has a similar HW setup, the Asus Smart Doctor v5.75 (temperature and fan probe tool etc.) can also be run perfectly without the Asus Gamer OSD, which was previously a requirement for it to work.
