Still years away. And obviously it should be better... That's the point of a new version.

    Who knows when the final version will be released. What will be
    available for free is an upgrade from Windows 7 or 8.1 to the first
    version of Windows 10, which is expected (it may or may not be;
    we'll see) to be released in about 9 months.

    And it will be free only for upgrades during the first year after
    release.

    . I like to try things out on one side of the screen while reading info about it on the other side.

    Boot to desktop mode and use the desktop programs instead of the 'Modern' UI 'Apps' and you won't know you aren't using Windows 7.

    Google/Bing for "Boot to desktop in Windows 8.1" for instructions.

    Windows 10 available for free in about 9 months.
