Windows 9 release Date?

Well, I read all of this crying about Windows 8, 8.1, and the recent update, and I don't quite get it. I have been using Windows 8 Professional since it came out. So what's not to like. If you understand about security and permissions you can do anything you like. For instance, the start menu is not available to the user. Simply go to the user\start menu folder and modify the permission to get rid of the "deny all" and allow all for your user, and voila, you can do anything you like. I have all of my desktop icons and links on the Start Menu and have set up the groups to reflect the various types. This technique is available to the entire system. Simply learn how your computer and OS work.

The one thing that gets to me is that when I run an application or go to a web site from the Start Menu, I would expect to be back at the Start Menu when I exit the app or link...not so. But punching the left windows key put you back...so big deal.

This OS is almost bullet proof. I rarely need to go to task manager to get rid of an offending application.

So...understanding your system is the key to success

I don't use second party AV apps. I stick with Windows Defender, and use Hitman Pro to clean up the nasty stuff. Defender doesn't slow sown your system. It is integrated and simply runs in the background as all AV programs should.

I, thought about defecting to android myself but have way too many programs that won't migrate and I'm old so that doesn't help either.  One thing you or anyone reading this can do is to join the Microsoft panel, they send an e-mail out from time to time asking questions about how things work what you like and don't like etc. 

  Too me in a lot of ways windows 8 (8.1) is a pain, so I, can't wait to see if windows 9 is any better, I, like some of the apps for 8 but I've never been able to customize it the way I, could with other versions of windows.

  Hi, I 'am one of the real people that beta tested Windows 8 and 8.1.  If your unhappy with the features of Windows latest release don't blame me or any other beta tester since we run the system for compatibility and software issues and not the features that may or may not be included in the final offering.

  Microsoft takes a lot of feedback before putting together a new O.S. and would love your comments, before they spend all that money developing a new software program, they are in business to make money and you can't do that if your annoying your customers instead of helping them.

  As for Mr. Blackwell I, understand your annoyance with Mc Afee as I, was never happy with them myself but you can un-install their program and simply use Windows Defender in Windows 8 or 8.1 and Microsoft Security Essentials in earlier versions of Windows.  These are free programs that work extremely well.

  Other anti-virus programs that are very good in my experience are AVG Free and as the name suggests it is a free software anti-virus and of course Norton Symantec although Norton will cost you.  Mc Afee software came on my Windows 8 and 8.1 laptops and they run AMD Quad core processors with no Intel components, and as far as I, know there are no in bred conspiracies between any of the companies mentioned.  My teenage son uses Google Chrome on his laptop and Windows Defender for his Anti-virus and has never had a problem, the first thing he did when he got his new computer was to download Chrome because he says it works better with his steam account, I, hope this information helps you. 

Yeah, I know, I could have/ should have uninstalled McAfee from the gitgo. Had I known just how much of a train wreck it was going to be with Firefox I would have done that first thing.  Even so, 8.1 was bad enough that I would have returned it just as fast as if McAfee wasn't an issue. At the risk of sounding paranoid this experience reinforced my suspicion that MS goes out of their way to discourage use of alternate browsers or email clients.  If Lenovo sets the Yoga 2 up for Android it may well be the start of a total defection from MS.
