Still years away. And obviously it should be better... That's the point of a new version.

    Eric,

    I am now seeing it noted on sales info on 8.1 machines that a free upgrade to 10 will be provided. 

    Have you heard anything about a release date for new machines with 10 loaded?

    Microsoft will not release a Windows 9 to succeed Windows 8.x, but will be skipping to release 10. The "start" button has more integration with Windows 8 applications (or vice versa) and navigation windows require fewer keystrokes to invoke. Reducing keystrokes has been a major design goal of revisions to Windows 8.1.

    Microsoft will begin introducing free 7 and 8.1 upgrades to Windows 10 as of July 29, 2015. The free upgrades will occur for a calendar year, ending July 29, 2016.
