Windows 9 release Date?

Again because a particular computer won't run Windows 8.0/8.1 is not Microsoft fault it is the manufacturer of the computer. They are the ones who decide whether to provide updated software, drivers, etc. If your computer falls into this category complain to the manufacturer. Hope this helps and if you need any further assistance post and we will be glad to help you.

I respectfully submit that at some level we are indeed nudged not so gently into new computers. To wit, my warhorse Thinkpad T40 runs XP Pro. It's not practical and barely possible to mod it to be able to run Win7 let alone 8.1.  My original post cited the Yoga 2 Pro. This is clearly a case of an excellent machine being stifled by an OS that a lot of people can't/won't resonate with. As far as my limited knowledge goes there is no alternate OS for that machine. As for the choice to change/upgrade; yes, it is ultimately a consumer choice, one that the MS marketing folks should have paid more attention to. I'm going to assume that the demographic of this group is well outside the Pareto Curve of typical computer users. The rest of us under the curve are the ones returning 8.1 machines. Ask around. The sales droid at Best Buy will you that anything running 8.1 has a 70% chance of being returned because of the OS whereas the Ipads seem to satisfy the majority of buyers. I'm a lifelong PC guy and like some of us, I can't bring myself to buy anything Apple. Still, I get the impression that 8.1 has sold more Ipads than Yogas. Yes, the choice is ultimately ours, a fact that MS would do well to keep in the front of their consciousness.

You still are not being forced to change computers the choice is yours. And remember it is the computer and software manufacturers that are responsible to make sure there product works with the new OS and Internet Explorer, not Microsoft. So if anyone is forcing you to upgrade your computer, software etc it is the Manufacturers and websites-not Microsoft. Again, the choice is yours so the ball is in your court. The fact of the matter is that with Windows Vista the top Explorer you can go to is 7 or 8.  This means that they will not work correctly on many sites.  Go to Ancestry.com and many other sites that are now phasing out everything from Explorer 9 down.  They may be working systems but you are not able to go on them with the Explorers here soon that many use.   I repair computers and anything above Explorer 9 on a lot of them will crash the entire system, not just being on the internet with the Platform update that goes with Explorer 10 and 11.  Remove those updates and you have a working computer.  However, what good is that going to be for any that can't go up past it?  They can't access their sites they want to be on without switching to a different type of explorer such as Google, FireFox,  and others.  Some are not wanting to do that and shouldn't have to do that to be able to use their computers.  So, therefore, are being forced to change systems to be able to use what they want to use on them.   I am aware of the fact that Windows 9, has not been released, but there comes another issue.  Even if someone wants to upgrade to it many of the computers are not compatable with doing so.  Therefore, once again meaning having to purchase a different computer.  I am running Windows 7 on my computer which I do happen to know will go up to Windows 8 and 8.1, but who knows if it will go up the next upgrade?  It is not an older computer as it has and core I7 in it, but still not sure it will go up past Windows 8 until the new software comes out to see if it is upgradable to the new one.  Which with the way things have been going it more then likely won't upgrade and I will be stuck with purchasing a new computer to be able to do things I do normally or changing out a million of the things on my computer to be able to use this one for a few years more. 

I hope this explains a little bit more of how it is making people have to change computers even if they don't want to.  All the companies are relying on the fact that Microsoft is leading them in the right direction and taking off the support for the older version of explorer which is going to make many not able to use the explorer they enjoy any more and having to move on.  Just food for thought as the company grows, that maybe some are not wanting to grow at the same speed as you are.
