Original Title: What is this delay in starting Windows 8????
When I turn on my laptop, instead of immediately going to the start page of windows 8, my screen is black with the Dell logo, and a message to the left that says 'Start PXE over IPv4'. after a good while it then says 'FXE-E18 Server Response Timeout'. then after another while, it says 'Start PXE over IPv6'. then after another minute or more wait it says, 'FXE-E16 no offer received', and the little spinning balls start spinning and the start page finally shows up? What is this delay in 'connection (it's probably a good 3 minutes, maybe more)? What does this mean?

Thank you for your kind words, although I think a few on here might disagree with you. Sometimes a simple 2 or 3 sentence answer is more useful than links, screen grabs and pages of information.
Having made the hard disk the 1st boot device if you ever need to boot from DVD just press the F12 key and you get a one time boot device selector, far easier than changing things in the BIOS.

From your desktop try holding down the ALT key and pressing F4 - which should popup a window that has ShutDown and a dropdown box to see Restart.
I thinjk all of my 'Power' buttons, once I press them, they will popup a menu with choices of Sleep/ShutDown/Restart. If I use the default windows shutdown my first screen will not show the F2 option here to enter setup.. .which is the bios. I have to press Restart to have the F2 access to the bios - and settings there for boot devices are Hdd cat number / DVD cat number / or PXE .. with basivc descriptions on the side bar once selected.
gob0nkers, thanks for your tip, but what would the RESTART key be? I just have the general power button, which I guess it's what you call ShutDown button, but I see no other...
Press RESTART then the computer turns off for a moment, as soon as its starting the display is when you press F2. If you use the ShutDown button, you wont have the option to enter bios as you actually are in a hibernate mode. Use Restart !
Thanks for your help again. Unfortunatelly pressing F2 makes a bar appear as if loading sthg but after that just the "F12 Boot Options" message in the lower right corner. Nothing else happens apart from that. Seems I'm stuck here.
