The system firmware has changed the processor's memory type range registers (MTRRs) across a sleep state transition (S4). This can result in reduced resume performance.

I do have the error daily when I comes out of sleep,, even though this is a new PC,  Asus Extreme 3 mobo, PowerGlo 5450 GPU, AMD 6350 CPU, 8gb ram,  and  after upgrading to 8.1 (64 bit, which may make a difference) and uninstalling and reinstalling the latest AMD display driver, and updating the BIOS to the most recent firmware (8/2013) and running scans for viruses.

If you Google "The system firmware has changed the processor's memory type range registers' you find this is a common issue, but I have yet to find a  fix I can confirm. 

  It also used to come out of sleep by itself but that was until I changed the adapter settings (Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections>properties) not to wake up the PC.  

I am not sure if this issue has any detrimental effect on boot up (which takes almost a full minute despite the 3.9ghz, 6 core CPU), or resume, and I cannot use Fast Boot because sometimes, but very rarely, the PC will not resume come out of sleep, but a blank screen with fans running, thus requiring a hard restart. 

But it is not a big deal, and I have lots to be thankful for, including this PC.  If I ever get a solution though, I will post it.

I have had this same "error 137 on wake" problem ever since installing Win 8. Installing Win 8.1 didn't change anything. I've tried every suggestion I could find with no success.

My computer boots fast, seems to run fine, therefore the error doesn't seem to effect anything, but it's irritating that it is there.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD4-B3 running the latest U1e UEFI BIOS. My computer is set to boot up in Legacy mode, as the OS was installed in that setting. I'm not prepared to reinstall Windows in UEFI mode to see if that fixes it, as it's a lot of work to go through.

It seems that this error is a very common problem. I would expect there would be a lot more complaints about this if more people looked in their Event Viewer. It would be great to find a fix for this error, so I'll keep an eye on this thread.

I just installed some new (8-25)  updates to my Asus 970 Extreme 3 mobo (http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/970%20Extreme3/?cat=Download&os=Win8a64) for the Lan, SATA RAID Utility, Audio driver and USB 3.0, but it makes no difference as re the error:  The system firmware has changed the processor's memory type range registers (MTRRs) across a sleep state transition.

I also have contacted Asus about this issue, and their solution was to offer to replace the board, but i thought that was too drastic.

I found out recently that MS (through this forum) can provide a diagnostic tool which runs, and then you choose to upload the info to MS. I did that last week when the 8.1 update was fitat offered, and would not install at first. They did not get back to me and after a couple days i was able to install it.  I did run a Malwarebytes scan which removed  5 minor things, but i think the fix was on their end.

But now i notice that IE will no longer reopen last session. Its grayed out, as is fix connection problems.  Thank God for FireFox (my preferred browser)!  

I would add a correction to my post, which is that my PC boots to a usuable Desktop in about 40 secs, after beginning to load the OS,  but i would like to use Fast Boot. I do use AutoRuns (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx) which gives a very comprehensive list of start up programs and services and ability to nuke them (use with care), which can help obtain faster load times.

I also have a UEFI BIOS. Perhaps that is relevant.

@snoopy_garnet: I have a relatively new Gigabyte Z77X-UD4H motherboard (with UEFI bios) and am getting this error. My Windows is set to boot in UEFI mode and I'm still getting this error, so I would hold off that reinstall. Like you the error doesn't seem to affect anything, except my machine seems slow to go to sleep. I will also follow this thread in the hope that a solution can be found.
