The number pad on my brand new Windows 8 laptop is not working?!

I just bought a new Toshiba Satellite laptop with windows 8 and the side number pad doesn't work, with or without the Num lock key on. Does anyone know why?

Click on Start --> Control Panel --> Ease of Access --> Ease of Access Center --> 

Click on "Change how your keyboard works" --> Under Control the mouse with the 

keyboard, uncheck the check box "Turn ON Mouse Keys" --> Click on OK.

I tired the advice to no avail.

This worked:    Control Panel Home Screen; Ease of Access; Change how Keyboard Works;

Unclick: turn on Toggle Keys by holding down NumLock for 5 secs.

    I just bought an Acer desktop computer with Windows 8 -- same issue after a few days' use.  The number lock key is stuck, so I cannot use the arrow keypad.  The suggestion to "Turn ON Mouse Keys" does not help.  This has to do with using the keypad instead of the mouse.  This is not my problem.  Any helpo would be appreciated!

    I had a similar issue with my brand new HP Pavillion running windows 8.1. My Number keypad was no longer working except from 456. I've pressed and held Shift +Num Lock for 5 second until I heard a beep sound from my laptop. Then I tried the number key pad again and it was back to normal.
