I cant get system properties by any method

You do not know how to use Windows Explorer?

Go at it this way...

• Click Start
• Click Run
• Type C:\Windows\system32\dllcache and hit enter
• Find the sysdm.cpl file and right click it, then click Properties

Repeat the above but substitute C:\Windows\system32

EDIT: To see extensions (the .cpl bit) in file names you might need to enable this in Folder Options...

• Once Windows Explorer is open click Tools, then click Folder Options...
• Click the View tab
• Scroll down and untick the box for "Hide extensions for known file types"
• Click OK

Do you by chance use Norton to protect your system? This can and does interfere with the system restore process. This link courtesy of ElderL, a fellow contributor...

sysdm.cpl does not appear in the C:\Windows\system32\dllcache folder but does in the****does in the

C:\Windows\system32 folder and it is 300,544 bytes.  Hide extensions for known file types was already unchecked.

I don't use Norton but use Zone Alarm and Microsoft security center

This statement conflicts with another of your other replies, the one that said

"nothing at all when I run sysdm.cpl from either location"

If the file was not in the dllcache folder I would expect the error previously described when attempting to run from there...

'sysdm.cpl' is not recognized as an internal or external command,operable program or batch file.

I have placed a copy of my sysdm.cpl file in my public SkyDrive folder here...

...download it and place it into both folders doing the dllcache folder first. To the best of my knowledge my system is clean, the file has been scanned for malware with up to date definitions, but you undertake this at your own risk. Set a Restore Point (in case we somehow can get System Restore to work) and take a copy of your current sysdm.cpl.

• Download the file sysdm.cpl from my public SkyDrive folder and save it to your desktop (for example)
• Right click the file and then click Copy
• Open C:\Windows\system32\dllcache as previously described
• Click Edit then click Paste

Repeat for C:\Windows\system32\

Overwrite the file if prompted.

Try and get System Properties to run again by all methods known to you including those described by me in this thread.

I dont know if I am doing this right but download it and it is in downloads.  If I try to open it it does nothing.  If I right click the option I get is copy download link.  It then does not give me the option to paste in the cache file.

What browser did you download with? Use Internet Explorer and you should be able to save it where you want.
