I cant get system properties by any method

Hiya,

I cant get system properties up by any method, (I.E right clicking on my computer and selecting properties).  This means I cant get to see any of the computer properties or system restore properties.  I have done malware and virus checks and they have come back clear.  Please Help

    More troubleshooting steps...

    Can you open any Control Panel item? Via Control Panel or any other method? Try, for example, intl.cpl from command prompt in \windows\system32.

    Do you have a Windows installation CD handy?

    Hiya Tricky,

    If I type type dir sysdm.cpl I get the following.

    Volume in drive C has no label.

    Volume Serial number is 2C81-596B

    Directory of C:\system32

    14/04/2008  01:12                                 300,544 sysdm.cpl

                           1 file<s>                                300,544 bytes

                           0 Dir<s>              190,058,504,888 bytes free

    C:\windows|system32>

    Hiya Tricky,

    If I type that I get regional and language options dialog box come up.  and no I have no CD there is a sticker on the pc with the product key so not sure if its a factory installed version

    Did you try running sysdm.cpl from \windows\system32\dllcache? Follow instructions in my first reply but substitute...

    cd \windows\system32\dllcache

    Please confirm that you get no message at all when you run sysdm.cpl from either location.

    Has this started happening recently? Can you do a system restore to correct?

    Using Windows Explorer navigate to both of those folders (\windows\system32\dllcache and \windows\system32), right click the sysdm.cpl file and then click properties. Is the size of both files 300,544 bytes?

    Hiya Tricky,

    No get nothing at all when I run sysdm.cpl from either location.  not really sure how long this as been happening but cant do a restore either, lets me go through the process and when  I turn the comp back on it says unable to restore to an earlier date or words to that effect.

    The other folders in windows explorer I really don't know where to even look for them, as this is starting go beyond my capabilities.
