Following the steps in method 2 I get the following appear in a dialog box:

c:\windows$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst\spuninst refers to a location that is unavailable.  It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network.  Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the internet or your network, and try again.  If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location

I will try Elizabeth suggestion of the Bleeping computer to see if there is something deep rooted

The uninstall for Windows XP service pack 3 is nothing to do with .net framework (of any version).

Try method 2 of the article. If the path and file name do not exist your PC must have been installed at the SP3 level. In which case, like Elizabeth, I suspect that a clean installation of XP is going to be necessary.

Believe it or not, the HP patch only applies to the HP PCs that I have stated that it applies to and then only if it also has an AMD processor. HP brand all their PCs so if you cannot see HP somewhere on it, it won't be an HP PC.

Just looked in the add and remove programs and this is what I have installed on there

microsoft.net framework 1.1

microsoft.net framework 2.0 service pack 2

microsoft.net framework 3.0 service pack 2

microsoft.net framework 3.5 sp1

So not to sure if this is what I am meant to be deleting.  I have downloaded the stand alone service pack 3.  The comp is unnamed but on the front it say it as AMD so do I need to install the patch still.

Sorry forgot to say Made a new admin account but still no joy
