I cant get system properties by any method

Hiya,

I cant get system properties up by any method, (I.E right clicking on my computer and selecting properties).  This means I cant get to see any of the computer properties or system restore properties.  I have done malware and virus checks and they have come back clear.  Please Help

    • Click Start
    • Click Run
    • Type sysdm.cpl and hit enter

    Does this start System Properties?

    Open a Command Prompt...

    • Click Start
    • Click Run
    • Type cmd and hit enter
    • In the resultant command prompt window type cd \windows\system32 and hit enter
    • Then type sysdm.cpl and hit enter

    Does this start System Properties?

    If the first suggestion doesn't work and the second does, it implies your default path(s) may be messed up so, assuming that you now have system Properties open...

    • Click the Advanced tab then click the Environment Variables... button
    • Scroll down the system variables and click Path to highlight it, then click the Edit... button
    • Make sure that %SystemRoot%\system32 is included in the Variable value

    Note: Paths are separated by semicolon character ;

    No error message? Such as...

    'sysdm.cpl' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

    operable program or batch file.

    What is the response if you type dir sysdm.cpl and hit enter (in the command prompt)?

    In theory, it should not be possible to get rid of this file (XP protects it - see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/222193).

    Does the file exist in \windows\system32\dllcache? Can you run it from there via a command prompt instead of running from \windows\system32?

    Firstly pardon my ignorance for not addressing you by your user name as I thought tricky was part of the message lol.  Sorry tried to paste the cmd box but it didn't take. 

    It just puts c:\windows\system32> again

    Hiya and thank you for responding.  I have tried both ways and still unable to access the properties after typing sysdm.cpl I get This

    Again thanks and hopefully this will help identify whats wrong
