I want my "Recent Places" icon/link back

The "Recent Places" icon/link in the Navigation Pane of Windows Explorer has disappeared.

I tried the two "return to default" operations. Nothing.

I found the actual file in C:, deleted a half-dozen corrupted files (the ones over 1 mg in size). Tried dragging the "Recent Places" icon over to the Nav pane - nada. Nothing puts the icon/link back where it belongs, under Libraries.

How do I get it back?

Right click the Recent folder,

Click on Send to and click on Desktop create shortcut,

Last time :)

Click the Start button and click on your User Name listed near the top,

Open the Links folder,

Drag the created shortcut onto the Opened Links folder.

Once it's in the Links folder,

Right click and click on Rename,

Click inside the rename box and back up on the Shortcut listing.

If you want to drag the Newly created shortcut Inside the New libray you can try to.

    Hi there -

    Remember, I have no Links folder. In the absence of a Links folder, I have been going here:

    Lerissa -> AppData -> Roaming -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Recent Items

    "Recent Items" is where the recently accessed files - the ones that no longer appear in my Nav Pane under "Recent Places" - are stored. (That folder icon does not look like a regular folder icon, though. It has a clock, a document, and a photo in file tray.)

    So here's what I did:

    Made a New Library and named it "Recent."

    Made a shortcut for Recent Items and put it on the desktop.

    Clicked the Start menu and opened my Personal folder.

    CREATED a new folder there at the first level of my Personal folder and named it Links.

    Dragged the Recent Items shortcut into the Links folder.

    Not exactly what I had before (a Recent Places link right in there with the other Libraries - now I have a Recent Items shortcut inside a folder inside a Library folder) but it is is better than nothing.

    Click On Organize on the top left,

    Click on Folder and Search options,

    Go to the View section,

    Scroll down the list and check the box,

    Show Hidden folders, Files and Drives,

    Click on Apply and Okay.

    You can also,

    Hold the windows logo key down and press the R key,

    Type in the Run box,

    Shell:Links

    Then click on Okay.

    Drag the shortcut on the main page.

    Once you have the option, but your "Recent Places" is remaining empty, it could be a key folder is missing. Follow this link, which should correct the problem.

    Method 1 was the trick for me.

    However, use backslashes for pasting the folder name

    C:\Users<name of your user account>\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows

    if the folder doesn't exist, create new folder "Recent Places"
