Unless a patch causes a widespread massive issue with all machines, they won't pull it (just setting expectations, not making excuses)

Can you list a bit more info for these impacted machines and would you be willing to open a phone support case with a Microsoft engineer?

What version of Windows (XP, 7 home or pro?)

    32bit or 64bit?

Are you seeing the exact same symptoms on all 50?

Is it with the same application?  Appears to be Adobe in your screenshot?  What Adobe products do they have installed?

I don't work for Microsoft.  I can't stop the update.  Only they can.  I'm sorry I can't help in that area.

What is updaterstartuputility.exe - do you have an Adobe app on that system?

<I am not loyal, not justifying, just saying the reality of what happens>

Microsoft support first must repro the problem to understand the issue.  If they can't repro it internally (and hey it's obvious they can't as they sent it out on this condition), they have to rely on people working with them to understand the issue.  When there is a consumer side problem (Rift isn't a business app) it takes time for cases to get investigated.  This isn't an excuse, this is just the reality of the situation with more consumer based issues.  While it's not just in the hands of Rift, they also may have the ability to more easily get log files and diagnostics to Microsoft and the developer contacts they have.

I'm not getting a BSOD, but I am experiencing an issue with update KB2859537.

So much so that I've had to uninstall it and turn off automatic updates because it causes some applications to crash. Specifically, it causes the game Rift to error and not be able to be opened.

This is not isolated to me either.

So far, anyone that has Win7 and plays Rift has had to uninstall the update in order to play the game. This has caused an uproar at least in the Rift the community. There are a couple threads on the Rift Forums that have isolated the issue, and have provided a temporary fix until either Rift is able to figure out something . . . or Microsoft rolls back this broken update.

I don't think that it should solely be in the hands of Rift to fix this issue, and that Microsoft should put in an effort to fix what they broke before it becomes more than just a headache.
