Recieve a BSOD after KB2859537.

Well good news is that a clean install has fixed the missing registry entries problem. All windows updates now applied successfully, allthough KB2872339 was downloaded rather than KB2859537.

I have been reinstalling all of the applications previously present and checking the registry every so often, but so far nothing has removed them. Obviously in 2 years lots of applications have been installed and removed though so could have been one of those or simply a corruption at some point, but it does look far from random as both registry entries were missing, but those around were unaffected.

So message for MS is to display or log some sensible error message rather than casing a BSOD please.

Just to prove the point I think I'm going to try a clean install, which, if there has been a corruption at some point in the past, should fix the issue. See you in a while.....

OK, I just installed some updates today but  2872339 gave me a fail to install. I tried again

after a reboot but I just hid the update 2872339 like I did 2859537

The update history error code was 8007371b

I was thinking of installing a new replacement hd drive and try the whole thing from the start on my daughters computer.... hardware or software issue ?  Is that the question ?

I do have these registry entries on a system that has ''survived'' both of these updates unscathed. I can also tell you what they are, which you should also know because you have at least one as you say, but on a x64 system you should have a pair as outlined above, one for 64 bit programs, one for WoW64.

On my system, they list the version numbers of the baseline version of ntdll (in my case this is the SP1), the version brought by KB2644615 and the version introduced by KB2872339, the latter also marked as current by this registry key.

I can also add to this that KB2644615 has also been superseded on Windows 7, but it has been documented as superseded only for Windows Vista. I uninstalled it to test my assumption that it has been superseded, and I can confirm that it has. All this means that I now have only the SP1 baseline version and the newest and current KB2872339 listed. The average user should have many more.
